FROM THE DESK OF FR. FALLON A Message for Vocations Awareness Week Most of us grew up in a typical Catholic family: Mass on Sundays, grace before meals, Advent candle and Christmas tree, occasional Rosary and Bible on bookshelf. But how do we take these traditions and grow in our relationship with God? How do we invite Him into our joys and sorrows, our big life decisions, even our little ones? Jesus. We can learn a lot from the early disciples/they walked and talked with Jesus. They weren t just along to see the show -He had a relationship with them. And once He taught and blessed His friends He sent them out to make disciples of all nations (Mt 28). Guess what? He asks us to do the same. That s what our vocations are: the particular way the Lord-who knows us, loves us, wants the best for us-invites us into relationship so we can serve others in His name. How is the Lord calling you to serve? In what ways can you bring the Good News to your family? Who in your life needs you to share His healing love, just by spending time with them? Spend time with Jesus and ask Him how He wants you to serve. And if you re young, in what state of life does God wish you to live? It s not all about how we feel, but rather listening in the quiet with the Lord and then discerning where He s leading you. Maybe God wants you to be a good spouse/mother/father! Maybe He s calling you to serve the People of God as a priest or sister, a brother or deacon. Or perhaps He longs for you to live in generous single life. Trust Him! Anyway, I grew up in the typical Catholic family! That s me. I came to know Jesus and He asked me to serve as a priest. It s also my friend who s a husband and father, or my younger sister who is an actress, or my friend who just lost her husband. It s all of us, really, regardless how we grew up. Here is a helpful quote about God s call from Pope St. John XXIII, The secret to everything is to let one s self be carried to God and so to carry him to others. Please know of my prayers for you this Vocation Awareness Week! Fr. Brian Fallon Vocation Director, Archdiocese of St. Louis

Today is St. Vincent de Paul Sunday. St. Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic Organization dedicated to providing help to those in need. We assist in a variety of ways, housing, clothing, food, vouchers, utilities, family Christmas gifts and more. St. Elizabeth is blessed to have a volunteer team of 9 people. So far this year the St. Elizabeth SVDP group has answered over 40 calls helping 23 families. Many families were helped more than once in the year. There are ways you can help: pray for us and the work we do, pray for our neighbors in need and refer people who need help in the St. Elizabeth area by calling 314-289-6101 Ext. 2274, join our St. Vincent de Paul Society, continue to support our mission financially by using the SVDP envelope found in your monthly envelope packet, donate to & shop at one of the 9 SVDP thrift stores in the St. Louis area. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 13, at 6:30 PM in the west wing meeting room. New members are always welcome. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUING SUPPORT
