FEBRUARY 2007 EL QUIRI Page 3 NEWSLETTER NEWS!! As promised in the last newsletter we have some exciting news about our Newsletter. Beginning with this edition, we will be sending this Newsletter in many ways. First, the Newsletter will always be on the web site at www.sidneyemmaus.org. Second, we will be e-mailing the newsletter to everyone whom we have an email address for. To do this we need you to fill out the form below with your e-mail address, and return it at the next gathering, so that we can get you added to the list. Third, we will be mailing the Newsletter to those who do not have an e-mail address. Lastly, we will have copies of the Newsletter to the Gathering. With the price of postage, we are hoping that we can do most of the mailing over the internet, but we will be happy to accommodate those who do not have computers or e-mail. Our goal is to have a Newsletter before every Walk, and also a Christmas edition, and we want to keep you as updated as possible about the events of the Emmaus Community. If you have any suggestions, or comments, please contact Kelly Young. Thanks, and have a God filled year! I would like to receive the Emmaus Newsletter, el Quiri, by e-mail. FEBRUARY 2007 EL QUIRI Page 4 EMMAUS TEAM QUALIFICATIONS: GREATER SIDNEY AREA EMMUAS HAS BEEN FORTUNATE OVER THE PAST 11 YEARS TO QUALIFY NUMEROUS WILLING SERVANTS OF GOD TO BE LAY DIRECTORS OF A WEEK- END. WE HAVE DILIGENTLY WORKED TOWARDS BEING SELF SUFFICIENT IN THIS AREA. UNFORTUNATELY, NOT ALL COMMUNITIES HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO THIS AND HAVE HAD TO RECYCLE PAST LD S. SIDNEY, BEING A FAIRLY NEW COMMUNITY, THERE WAS A NEED EARLY ON TO PULL FROM OTHER COMMUNITIES. A NUMBER OF VERY HIGHLY QUALIFIED SERVANTS. ONCE WE ESTABLISHED SIDNEY, WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO WORK INDIVIDUALS UP THROUGH THE PROGRESSION, SO TO SPEAK, AND OUR LIST OF QUALIFIED LD S BEGAN TO GROW. TO BE QUALIFIED FOR LAY DIRECTOR THERE ARE SOME SET CRITERIA. THESE INCLUDE AT LEAST: 1. ASSISTANT TABLE LEADER 1 TIME 2. LOGISTICS 1 TIME 3. TABLE LEADER -2 TIME WITH TALKS 4. ASSISTANT LAY DIRECTOR 1 WITH TALK APPROXIMATELY 8 YEARS AGO THE BOARD MADE A COMMITMENT NOT TO RECYCLE PAST LD S. WE WOULD JUST WORK HARDER IN THE PREPARATION AREA WITH OUR OWN COMMUNITY. ONE WAY TO ACCOMPLISH THAT WAS TO ELIMINATE BACK-TO- BACK TEAM SERVICE, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. THIS WOULD ALLOW MORE AND MORE NEW TEAM MEMBERS. THE FACTS ON THIS COMPARE: 8 YRS AGO WE ONLY HAD A FEW MEN AND WOMEN QUALIFIED AND TODAY WE HAVE 14 MEN AND 15 WOMEN PRESENTLY QUALIFIED. WHAT THESE NUMBERS NOW ALLOW US TO DO, IS ASK THAT EVERYONE NOW HAVE 2 ALD EXPERIENCES, BEFORE BECOMING QUALIFIED TO BE A LAY DIRECTOR. LET ME TELL YOU WHY THIS IS A GOOD THING. DURING MY EXPERIENCE BEING A BOARD MEMBER THESE PAST 4 YEARS, I HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS ASK FOR AN- OTHER ALD EXPERIENCE BEFORE BEING CALLED TO SERVE AS LAY DIRECTOR. THEY FEEL ANOTHER TIME AT THE BACK TABLE TO GET A BETTER GRASP ON WHAT GOES ON WOULD BE TO THEIR BENEFIT. AFTER MUCH CONSIDERATION THE BOARD IS MAK- ING THIS CHANGE TO THE CRITERIA. THEREFORE, BEGINNING JANUARY 1 ST THE BOARD WILL NOW REQUIRE A 2 ND ALD EX- PERIENCE TO BECOME A LAY DIRECTOR. ALL OTHER REQUIREMENTS WILL NOT CHANGE. THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE ALREADY QUALIFIED WITH 1 ALD EXPERI- ENCE WILL BE GRANDFATHERED IN. THOSE WISHING A SECOND ALD EXPERIENCE, LEADERSHIP ALONG WITH THE TEAM SELECTION COMMITTEE, WILL DO ITS PART TO WORK THESE PEOPLE INTO THAT SPOT WHEN GOD SO LEADS. THE BOARD FEELS THIS WILL MAKE OUR COMMUNITY STRONGER BY HAVING LD S BETTER PREPARED TO LEAD THE WEEKEND. I HOPE I HAVE EXPLAINED THIS WELL ENOUGH. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK. IN CLOSING, AS I LEAVE THE BOARD, I TRUST YOU WILL SUPPORT THOSE WHO REMAIN AS YOU HAVE SUPPORTED ME. GOD HAS GIVEN US THIS TOOL CALLED EMMAUS, LET S CONTINUE TO USE IT FOR HIS GLORY AND HONOR. IN HIS SERVICE JERRY NOBLE
