Immaculate Conception Church Staff Connection... Parish Mission Statement Immaculate Conception Catholic Church celebrates the Eucharist and proclaims the gospel in worship, through our love of God and for each other, and with our ministry to the marginalized. We journey together in our faith, united by our trust in Christ s love and mercy and the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. May 27, 2018 Holy Trinity Sunday What kind of God do you believe in? It is not enough to say I believe in God. Our God is different from the pagan s god. The readings for this Sunday have been chosen to help us clarify and to banish from our minds all the wrong images of God we might have. The first reading from the book of Deuteronomy was written to console the Jews enslaved in Babylon. The author invites them to reflect on the great events of their history to nourish their hope, and to compare Yahweh and what He has done for them and what people say their gods did for them. They will conclude that no god has ever intervened so powerfully on behalf of his people. The knowledge that they have a God who loves them and protects them, who takes such interest in His people, means that they must not despair. The image of God that is revealed to us by the Scripture is a God who takes exceptional interest in our human condition/problems and intervenes to help and save us. Paul describes what baptism does for us. We are no longer just creatures or slaves. We are now God s children and share in His own life in a special way. The given Spirit urges us to cry out to God, in joy and trust. This is why God revealed Himself to us in order to tell us that we are His beloved children, brothers and sisters of Christ transformed by the power of His Spirit. Baptism is not magic conferring automatic salvation. It is a seed of life that must be nurtured and allowed to grow and produce fruit. The Apostles have been entrusted with the task of bringing all people to God. Christ invests in them with His own authority and sends them into the whole world. We too have the same mission entrusted to us to invite many people to the family of God which is always open to receive and welcome new children. God is with us at our side every day, to the end of time. Are we convinced of this? Are we the sign of God s presence in our society? Happy Trinity Sunday! Mungu ametenda mambo makuu. Fr.
