Music Ministry First Sunday of Advent Saturday and Sunday November 26 & 27, 2016 www.stjudecatholic.org Brothers and sisters: You know the time; it is the hour now for you to awake from sleep. For our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. (Romans 13:11-14) Dear Friends, We have now come to the holy season of Advent. Welcome! Welcome to this time of quiet preparation. In a world of work, busyness, noise, and worry, I know that it is difficult to find much quiet time at all. However, this is what Advent calls us to. As we begin our preparations for the celebration of the birth of Jesus at Christmas, we are encouraged to prepare our hearts and homes for a new coming of Christ into our lives. How could this happen for you and me his year? I have been thinking about it for some time now and invite you to do the same. How can we perhaps take a bit more time to stop, breathe, and rest in God s presence? As one means of assisting us with this, Deacon James and I will be offering 4 evenings of reflection on Tuesdays in Advent. The fourth will include an Advent evening prayer service. Please see the cover of this bulletin for details, and I hope you can join us. Have a great week! Sincerely yours, Pastor Singers needed for Christmas! Flooded With Love A Morning of Healing Prayer for Flood Survivors In the aftermath of the recent flood, the physical, emotional and spiritual scars from that traumatic experience cry out for healing. This morning of prayer will focus on the healing ministry of Jesus, as recorded in the Gospels, with a plea for His healing ministry in our own lives. The Gospels record 31 instances of Jesus healing various individuals. It is obvious from these healing accounts that Jesus' unconditional love for us impels him to grant us whatever healing we need to draw closer to Him and to serve as his disciples. This Morning of Healing Prayer is co-sponsored by the Archdiocese of New Orleans Retreat Center and the Office of Marriage and Family Life of the Diocese of Baton Rouge. This prayer experience will be led by Fr. Doug Doussan, the resident Chaplain for the Retreat Center. It will be held on Saturday, December 3 rd from 9 AM to Noon in the Parish Hall at St. Jean Vianney Church at 16166 South Harrell s Ferry Road. The event is free, but you are asked to call the Office of Marriage and Family Life at (225) 242-0323 to reserve a seat.
