THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD Stewardship, A Way of Life Tithing God s Plan for Giving Biblically a tithe means 10%. All are asked to consider tithing and return 10% of our income to the Lord (5% to the parish, 5% to your favorite charity). The spiritual practice of tithing disposes us to make God first in every area of our lives! The aim is to secure not the tithe, but the tither, not the gift, but the giver for God! The St. Francis Prison Ministry Program is in need of volunteers to assist with religious services at the Dauphin County Prison. Eucharistic Ministers of Communion are especially needed to conduct Communion Services for the inmates. The Dauphin County Prison does not have a Catholic chaplain so any Catholic services or bible instructions must be done by volunteers, or the few priests in the area who are available as their time permits. Prison ministry is a very worthwhile and rewarding way to honor Christ and serve those who would not otherwise hear the Word of God and receive Jesus in Communion; and Jesus specifically mentioned prison visitation as the hallmark of redemption (see Matthew 25: 31-46; "When I was in prison you visited me.") Further information can be obtained by contacting Deacon Jim Doyle at 717-343-1102. Also, the Prison Ministry is in need of winter clothing for those men and women coming out of prison after months of incarceration. Used coats, hats, and gloves in good condition can be deposited in the narthex of the church in the marked bins. Collection bins will be available this weekend and next weekend (January 13). These items will be delivered to those in need. SAVE THE DATE: SATURDAY, JANUARY 26, 2019 THE ANNUAL ITALIAN DINNER Sponsored by the Good Shepherd Knights of Columbus will be held after the 5:00 p.m. Mass in the Parish Hall. THE MARIAN PRAYER GROUP HAS CHANGED THEIR MEETING DAY: Beginning, January 7, 2019, they will meet at 9:00 a.m. after the 8:30 a.m. Mass in the All Purpose Room. The focus is devotion to our Blessed Mother and her rosary in intercessory prayer to our Lord Jesus. We pray for the intentions of our parish as requested in the prayer note books located in the narthexes of the church. If you desire to serve others through prayer, this is the group for you! All are welcome. For questions, please contact the Parish Office at 717-761-1167. by Jeff Cavins and Thomas Smith BIBLE STUDY TIME IS BACK REVELATION Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come is an intriguing study that shows how the kingdom established by Christ in his Church is intimately connected with the kingdom of heaven. Here you will discover what the mysterious figures and images of Revelation mean. You will see how Revelation is more than an apocalyptic vision of the "end times." It is a revelation of God as our Divine Bridegroom and the Church as his spotless Bride, forever united in a heavenly, holy, and mystical marriage that we enter into every time we celebrate the Mass. Your Group Will: Learn the meaning of the mysterious figures and events in the book of Revelation. Discover how the Mass is really heaven on earth. Learn about the Antichrist and his destruction. See the Second Coming of Christ and the Final Judgment in the context of history. Learn what will happen at the end of time and the establishment of a new heaven and a new earth. As in the past, we will offer the programs on Tuesday morning form 10:00 a.m. noon, beginning January 29 or Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning on January 31. Dr. Spahr is looking to start a Children's Liturgy Program at the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays. Children in grades K-5 would be invited after the opening prayers to the Chapel to hear the readings and a message that is geared towards their level of understanding. I am hoping to have volunteers help with this on a rotating basis. Each week we will need a leader and a few volunteers to help out. The leader will be responsible for reading the readings and proclaiming the message of the week. We will have materials available to guide you through this. Also, they will lead the children through the Creed. The children and volunteers will return to Mass during the Offertory. All volunteers need to be cleared through the Diocesan Youth Protection Program (which Dr. Spahr is available to assist you with this). For more information or to volunteer please contact Dr. Spahr at 717-737- 8216 (w), by text at 717-810-6870 (cell), or by email at aspahr@gsschpa.org
