Our Story Our story begins with the first disciples who were filled with the Holy Spirit and built bridges to all peoples to allow them to know Jesus. We stand with the ancient church and honor their faith as expressed in the Nicene and Apostles Creed. We stand with the churches of the reformation that invigorated the medieval church and are guided by their faith as expressed in the Westminster Confession. We join Presbyterians and other churches in fellowship and mission. We became a congregation in 1954 in response to a University Of Washington study on rural development. Believers from diverse denominations came together to provide for faith in the foothills. Our Vision Because of Jesus In the Power of the Holy Spirit We strive to love God, serve one another, And make a difference in the World! 2

Our Purposes To express our love of God in worship, service and daily living ~ To join with and enjoy the family of God ~ To become more like Jesus ~ To meet the needs of others with practical love ~ To share the good news of of Jesus and love our neighbors as ourselves. Our Historic Mission Statement We the members of the Packwood Community Presbyterian Church open our hearts in love to each and every human being. We strive: --To provide a haven for spiritual guidance and the means to come to know Jesus, as well as receive blessed assurance of what is to come. --To teach God s word, live Christ s teachings, and offer supportive fellowship to all. --To open our facility and offer our resources as we join other local churches to serve the needs of our communities. 3

SUNDAY Worship Services Family Worship & Children s Time 10:30 am Our worship service is designed to worship God and offer ourselves in the service of God, hence the name worship service. We strive to be sensitive to those just beginning their search to know God in a deeper way. Our service follows an ancient Christian order including responsive or choral praise to God, silent and communal confession, prayers for one another, hymns and praise songs, sacraments, scripture and preaching. During the service the congregation has opportunity to reflect upon and informally discuss a passage of scripture that goes with the sermon of the day. Remember worship occurs not just on Sunday, but seven days a week in daily lives! 4

Church Staff Meet Our Transitional Pastor: Rev. Lynn Longfield 5 After 15 years of providing leadership to Olympia Presbytery s 46 congregations, Rev. Lynn Longfield retired in December. However, she knew she wanted to continue serving the church. She feels blessed to be able to serve as pastor of PCPC and looks forward to getting to know both the congregation and the community of Packwood. Previous to her work with the Presbytery, Lynn was pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Tacoma for 10 years. Rev. Longfield has lived in several different localities over the years, including Indiana, Wisconsin, and North Carolina, but the Northwest is definitely home to this Everett native. She has two grown sons. Andrew and his family live in Seattle where he works for the Gates Foundation. Christopher and his wife live in Brooklyn, New York, where both enjoy vocations as architects. Lynn loves visiting the big city but far prefers small towns. When she is not found providing pastoral care and church leadership, Lynn can be found in her garden, or walking wherever she can find a trail, reading a good book, or cooking up a meal for friends. She especially likes to breathe clean air, see the stars at night, and enjoy the beauty of a town like Packwood. She is grateful for the opportunity to live and serve here and thanks God daily for guiding her and the church to what she knows will be a fruitful partnership in ministry. Session is elated to have her onboard and looks forward to working

with her not only in finding a permanent pastor for our congregation but also in helping all of us deepen our passion for and understanding of Christ s love and teachings. 2013 Session Elders Margery Barlow, Clerk 494-0591 Hal Blanton 494-2431 Deb Shepard 494-5578 John Mullenix 497-3081 Bill Meier 497-2700 Sharon Maples 494-2929 Jim Lehman 494-5798 2013 Deacons Jan Grose 360-494-4007 2011-2014 jgrose@lewiscounty.com Richard Nubile 360-494-4033 2010-2013 Robert Hamilton 360-623-5193 2012-2015 Tricia Meier 360-280-4450 2011-2014 Sheryl Hall 253-905-3482 2013-2016 6

Red Cross Approved Emergency Shelter In 2009, Packwood Community Presbyterian Church opened its doors to those stranded in the January flood. Since then we have become a recognized Emergency Shelter in times of crisis. Aided by the Red Cross, we will again offer our facility to stranded and evacuated persons. 9
