November 2018 Jonah Beginner s Bible (pp. 257-264) God is always with us. This is a recommended schedule. You can adjust, but do make time for the lesson and the activity! 15 minutes 5 minutes 10 minutes 5 minutes 10 minutes 5 minutes 10 minutes Check in and play time Clean up toys Prayer/sing/snack Lesson/story time Lesson activity/craft Song time Play and clean up time As you check in kids, be sure to ask parents if their kids are potty-trained or are working on it. And so you know - if there is an "accident" we've got some clothes available to send them home in. Not sure where to find clothes? Call or radio your Ops Team to have someone help you. The number should be posted in your room. Model what you want kids to do! It takes a lot of repetition for two year olds to grasp a concept, so when they see you do something yourself (for example, sharing a toy with someone) it will help them learn it too. Today is a fun story to tell: Jonah and the big fish! Kids will love learning about how Jonah was swallowed by the fish, but make sure to emphasize that God was with him everywhere he went.

Goal: Help kids understand God s story in a language they understand. Why? We want kids to believe that God loves them, and a great way to do that is to help them experience stories about how much he loves us! Tip: Even though these kids are only two years old, they re still soaking up a lot of information! Repeat the phrase God is always with us several times throughout the day, like when they re cleaning up, or when they need to share a toy. ACTIVITY 1 Supplies needed: paper fish from Large Group, Jonah figure (Ken doll) Lay the fish on the table or floor (whichever works best for your group) and let kids take turns putting Jonah (a Ken doll) in the fish s belly. They can play with Jonah and pretend that he s swimming around the fish, then gets swallowed by the fish, then escapes from the fish and onto dry land! ACTIVITY 2 Supplies needed: none Have kids pretend to do different things like driving, or walking, and say God is always with us as they pretend. Ideas for kids to act out : driving, walking, running, swimming, going to sleep, eating. ACTIVITY 3 Supplies needed: coloring page and crayons Hand each kid a coloring page! As kids color their page, ask: What animal swallowed David in the ocean? (A big fish) Was God with Jonah even when a big fish swallowed him? (Yes)

There are lots of fun thematic elements to today s story, like water, boats, and giant fish! Use them to your advantage, and act like you re on the ocean with kids, just like Jonah was! They ll have fun acting out the story, instead of just listening to it. Two year olds attention spans only last for a few minutes, so don t be discouraged if kids wander off or get distracted! Just change up your teaching style and redirect their attention to something new. *You ll need the printed fish image as a prop. INTRO Hi everybody! It s so good to see you today. This is the Bible, and it s a very special book! (Show the Bible to kids) It s all about God, and how much he loves us. God loves me (Point to yourself) and God loves you! (Point to kids) Today we ll see how God is always with us. JONAH IS SCARED There was a man named Jonah, and he had a special job to do. His job was to tell people about God. Sometimes, he even told people what God said. It was a very important job. One day, he got scared. Can you all pretend to be scared? (Pretend to act scared and hide behind your hands along with kids.) Jonah didn t want to do his special job, so he ran away. Let s all stand up and pretend to run! (Run in place along with kids.) Good job. Let s sit back down. Even though Jonah ran away, God was still with him. JONAH GOES INTO THE OCEAN When Jonah got scared, he got in a boat and went into the ocean. Let s all pretend to get on a boat together! The waves are splashing, and there s a big storm. Everybody hold onto the boat and lean this way! (Lean to the right.) Now everybody hold on and lean this way! (Lean to the left.) It looks like a big wave is coming; let s all get down and cover ourselves! (Let kids respond.) Good job. Even though Jonah was in a big scary storm, God was still with him. Let s watch a video and see what happened! Video: Jonah (Twos Story) Wow! When Jonah jumped into the ocean, a big fish swallowed him up! (Cont. on next page.)

(Show kids the fish image, and pretend to take a big gulp.) Oh no! What if a big fish swallowed you? Yuck! (Let kids respond and say Yuck! ) Was God still with Jonah, even when a big fish swallowed him? (Help kids respond, Yes ) Yes, God was Jonah everywhere he went, even inside a fish! Let s sing along to this video, and see how God is with us everywhere we go! Music Video: Jonah (Twos Song) GOD IS WITH US EVERYWHERE WE GO Is God with us in church? (Yes) Is God with us at home? (Yes) Is God with us when we sleep? (Yes) Is God with us everywhere we go? (Yes) PRAY Dear God. We love you. We re so glad that you re always with us no matter where we go. Amen!
