Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus (Trust In Jesus) William J. Kirkpatrick; words: Louisa M. R. Stead Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take him at his word, Just to rest upon his promise, just to know, Thus saith the Lord. Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him! How I ve proved him o er and o er, Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust him more. O how sweet to trust in Jesus, just to trust his cleansing blood, Just in simple faith to plunge me neath the healing, cleansing flood. Yes, tis sweet to trust in Jesus, just from sin and self to cease, Just from Jesus simply taking life and rest, and joy and peace. I m so glad I learned to trust thee, precious Jesus, Savior, Friend, And I know that thou art with me, wilt be with me to the end. Offering Moment & Prayer of Dedication Tithes & Offerings: Days of Elijah Robin Mark These are the days of Elijah, Declaring the Word of the Lord; And these are the days of your servant, Moses, Righteousness being restored; And though these are days of great trials, Of famine and darkness and sword; Still we are the voice in the desert crying, Prepare ye the way of the Lord. Behold he comes, riding on the clouds, Shining like the sun at the trumpet call; So lift your voice, it s the year of Jubilee, And out of Zion s hill salvation comes. These are the days of Ezekiel, The dry bones becoming as flesh; And these are the days of your servant, David, Rebuilding the temple of praise; And these are the days of the harvest, The fields are white in the world; And we are your laborers in your vineyard, Declaring the Word of the Lord. There is no god like Jehovah, There is no god like Jehovah. (repeat) Sermon: The Posture of Love George Hinman Text: Ephesians 5:15-21 (p. 952) 15 Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, 16 making the most of the time, because the days are evil. 17 So do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, 20 giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 21 Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ. << WE RESPOND>> How Great Is Your Love Bart Millard & Pete Kipley My heart is steadfast, O God, and I will sing With all my heart and soul music for the King And I will awake the dawn with my praise to you, Lord
How great is your love So much higher than the heavens With faithfulness that reaches the sky Oh how great is your love Praise the Lord, O my soul, and glory to the King Forever you are robed with majesty We come to you, O Lord, and lay our praise at your feet Be exalted, O God, and let your glory reign Let it reign, let it reign, let it reign Prayers of the People & the Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. What could be more needed today? It s not just that we seem to be losing the ability to speak respectfully to one another across lines that divide us (ethnicity, culture, politics, economics, lifestyle...). It s that we don t seem to talk to people outside our tribes at all. Whether we are afraid to do it or just don t know how, it doesn t have to be this way. For the sake of our future, it can t be this way. The work of justice and reconciliation requires it. The good news is that Jesus Christ offers another way. Speak the truth in love, the letter of Ephesians tells us. It was written to a region divided in as many ways as ours, but it
invites us to a new peace and unity grounded in the claim that someone had come back from the dead. The letter explores the implications of that claim and expounds the ways it completely reshapes how we speak to one another. Let s read the text and re-engage the conversation. To request Chancel flowers in memory or in honor of a loved one, please contact Bob Davies in the Worship department (x143, bobd@upc.org). Families with young children are always welcome to worship together in the Sanctuary. The service is also played on closed-circuit TV in Knox Parlor, just outside the Sanctuary, which is available for parents and children, if desired.
