I feel that as a Council we have accomplished much, but, as always, there is till much to do. Last year with the help of many of you, we achieved Star Council. This year has been a little more of a challenge. We have grown as a Council and the new Knights have already proved to be an exceptional group. Tom Green, our Membership Director, deserves our thanks for doing such a great job. Our Council was pleased to present $12,000 to Father Dillingham for 'Sustaining Hope and the Parish Stain Glass Window' initiative. Our fund raisers continue to be a great success; we are certainly a Council that lives up to our commitment of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism in all we do. As my term draws to a close, I wish to thank you all for your support throughout my two years. It has been both an honor and privilege to serve Coffee Run Council as your Grand Knight. The Priests, Deacons and Staff of St Mary's, thank you for all your help and it has been a great pleasure to work with you. Your support, not just of me but all the Knights of Coffee Run Council, is so appreciated. may God bless you and keep you ever in His good graces. To the 1

Ladies Auxiliary, a big thank you. Coffee Run is a great Council because of your help and support. Brother Knight's, please join me in extending our warmest wishes and support to Terry Hills the incoming Grand Knight and to all elected Council Officers in the new Columbian year. The light of God surrounds me; The love of God enfolds me The power of God protects me; The presence of God watches over me; Wherever I am, God is. James Dillet Freeman Vivat Jesus LBM GENERAL COUNCIL NEWS MEMBERSHIP Tom Green Congratulations to Pat Sweeney and Ken Willis who completed their journey to full Knighthood by taking their Third Degree at Holy Child Council on Sunday afternoon, April 12th! Gerry Safranski and I were observers for the Exemplification. I want to especially extend congratulations to our newest Knights, Giuseppe Saggese, and Jim Brown, who took their First Degree at St. Pius Council later that same day. Gene Sinko and I were observers. Also, please welcome Mario Pavesi who transferred to our council from a council in Texas. DUES Unpaid dues are now in arrears and we ask that you make every effort to get up to date. Second notices have been mailed reminding those whose 2015 dues have not yet been received. If you have any questions about this, please call or email John Baldo. (302) 239-6541 or baldo61@gmail.com CULTURE OF LIFE DELAWARE STATE COUNCIL - Excerpts From April and May Prayer Vigils Thank you to all who took part in the recently concluded 40 Days for Life campaign in Dover and Wilmington, and the Good Friday Life Chains held throughout the State. The prayers and witness hold promise for a return to a Culture of Life. The next Wilmington K. of C. prayer vigil will be Saturday, May 2 from 7:30 to 10:30 outside Planned Parenthood. In Dover the next K. of C. Vigil is scheduled Saturday, May 16, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Euthanasia Save the date October 10 at 11:00 AM. Father Chris Coffiey, Chaplain of Coffee Run Council 6768, will give a presentation on the subject Death with Dignity It s not what you think, at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Hockessin. Death With Dignity As you may know, State Representative Paul Baumbach (23 rd district Newark) has announced he will introduce a death with dignity bill in the Delaware legislature in the next 2

session. Physician-assisted suicide laws already exist in Oregon, Washington, Vermont and Montana and of course in several misguided European countries. As Catholics, we are duty bound to vigorously oppose such laws. Our neighboring state of Maryland had a similar law introduced this year and it failed to get out of committee. The sponsors intend to bring it up again in 2016. The following note is taken from the Maryland State Council Pro-Life News and recounts the testimony of one who has a personal stake in the outcome of their legislation. Making Moral Choices (From USCCB s Forming Consciences For Faithful Citizenship) Difficult political decisions require the exercise of a well-formed conscience aided by prudence. This exercise of conscience begins with always opposing policies that violate human life or weaken its protection. Those who formulate law therefore have an obligation in conscience to work toward correcting morally defective laws, lest they be guilty of cooperating in evil and in sinning against the common good (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops [USCCB], Catholics in Political Life ). When morally flawed laws already exist, prudential judgment is needed to determine how to do what is possible to restore justice even if partially or gradually without ever abandoning a moral commitment to full protection for all human life from conception to natural death (see Pope John Paul II, Encyclical Evangelium Vitae, no. 73). (All of both the April and May Delaware State Council s CULTURE OF LIFE Bulletins can be found on our PRO-LIFE WEB PAGE at www.6768-kofc-de.org/prolife) PRO LIFE NEWS John Baldo Rose for Life: The Program has resumed following the Lenten Season. Mike Bailey and Nick Mastrocinque presented the Roses and Prayer Cards at baptisms in April. Tony Gennusa, Kevin O'Neil, Mark Salzbrenner and Ken Willis are scheduled for May and June. Thanks to all who help make this ministry a valued part of Parish Life. Ultrasound: State Council has received a request from A Door of Hope for an Ultrasound machine at a new pregnancy center they are opening in Middletown. Of course the Knights of Columbus will respond generously, and fund the machine, which will be our third one in Delaware. The new center will provide needed counseling services in what is now a large population center in the State ROUTE 41 SPRING CLEANUP RECAP Jim Ambrose On a picture perfect Saturday morning, April 11, seven nimble Knights scoured the Route 41 roadsides from the DE-PA border to Brackenville Road to pack TWENTY bags with trash. Thanks to Paul Martin, Charlie Talkowski, Mike Bailey, Rusty Giles, Jim Smith, and Joe Clark for sacrificing a little time and muscle. The Fall cleanup will be October 17th from 700am to 1000am. Look for a reminder in September. This is one of the easiest activities to help with, so please consider next time. - Jim Ambrose PASTA DINNER - Franz Portmann Our next Pasta Dinner is on May 17 from 4:30-7:00 pm at Saint Mary's Hall. Please consider helping out at few hours, and also consider bringing your families out for a pleasant Sunday evening dinner with your friends and neighbors. Please let me know by e-mail or phone, if you can help in the kitchen, or as a server, set-up person, cashier, or bartender. 3

That s peace of mind, and that s what we offer with every product in our portfolio. We guarantee the cash value in your whole life policies will be there. We guarantee the rates on your term insurance. We guarantee our retirement products will provide a stream of income when you need it. On top of those product guarantees, I guarantee that I will offer professional, high-quality service that you would expect from our organization. Our Order is among the highest rated life insurers in North America. AM Best has rated the Knights of Columbus A++, Superior for 39 consecutive years. It s a testament to our track record for excellence and security. I would suggest that a principal reason that we were able to achieve those accolades is because we remain steadfastly committed to the vision of Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney by providing life insurance by brother Knights for brother Knights. That commitment is an essential core value of the Knights of Columbus, and our core values permeate all levels of our organization. We pledge to serve our brother Knights, and their families, according to our Golden Rule:

In all my professional relationships, I pledge myself to the following rule of conduct: I shall, in light of all conditions surrounding those I serve, render that service which, under the same circumstances, I would apply to myself. Let s talk soon to discuss how our products can bring that peace of mind to you and your family. Michael J.
