Giving Tree...another year of Success A huge thank you to our Confirmation class teens for helping organize the Giving Tree gift packages on December 2nd. They worked hard and as a team to ensure that the packages would be ready for pick-up by Catholic Charities. Also, thanks to the dedication of our adult leaders who guided the teens in the project. The whole effort went very smoothly. Thanks to our teens and our generous parishioners, who took tags and brought back wrapped gifts. Three hundred and twenty five children in need will have presents of much needed clothing and anticipated toys to open this Christmas. God bless everyone! Mother Superior s Ho-Ho-Holy Night On Saturday, December 1st, the Funny Nun returned to St. Peter Damian to share her wisdom about Christmas and Catholicism, and to enlist help in planning a holiday pageant intended to impress the Vatican. Mother Superior engaged the audience in continuous laughter and awarded prizes to those who helped her in her quest. Some even reenacted events leading up to the birth of Jesus Christ. The hit comedy had previously been performed at the Royal George Theatre and on tour. A special thanks to the St. Peter Damian Parish Pastoral Council, who hosted the event, organized and ran it. SPRED is a Faith Formation program for children and adults with special needs. Small faith communities welcome these individuals and offer the promise of inclusion in the sacramental life of the parish. Every parish in the Archdiocese of Chicago is called to offer appropriate faith formation for persons of all ages with special needs. SPRED is the answer to that call. Parishes work in collaboration with one another. A group of parishes form a network of SPRED programs to respond to both children and adults with developmental and/or cognitive disabilities. St. Peter Damian is part of this mission. A SPRED group for children 6-10 years old will begin at our parish in the fall. This group will meet every other Thursday beginning October 11th evening from 6:00-7:30pm in the chapel lower halls. If you know someone with special needs who may benefit from SPRED, please contact St. Peter Damian Faith Formation Office at faithformation@stpeterdamian.org or by phone at 630-830-2295. Mary Doeseckle, the SPRED coordinator, will be happy to answer any questions you may have. You may visit the SPRED website at www.spred-chicago.org. Have you considered belonging to our Church family? 7
