Brothers, Welcome to the fall season, I hope you are all enjoying the cooler weather. As we move deeper into fall, we have many council activities planned over the next several months. With September just completed, we held our annual Soccer Challenge, and supported the parish Kickball tournament. Thank you to Ed Tumbarello for chairing the Soccer Challenge this year which was held on September 25th. We had a spirited turn out for both the 1st round one as well as the Districts we hosted on Oct 4th, thanks again to volunteers whom helped. The winners were Samuel Eversgerd (St. Clement), Alex Ancell, Luke Mathiesen, Caroline Novak (St. Clement), Elizabeth Hickman and Piper Ancell. Thanks also to everyone who helped grill and volunteer at the Kickball tournament, especially Neil Thoele and Mike Mcgrath whom went above and beyond. For October, we are sponsoring the parish Oktoberfest on Saturday October 10th from 6PM-10PM. I hope you can all attend, bring your families and help make this a great parish event. As usual we still need volunteers for kitchen, set up and clean up duties, see the sign up Geni for details. In November, we are planning a church mulch day with BBQ, more to come shortly and we are hosting a 1st degree on Tuesday November 17th, please see Vince Klein with any new prospective members. Thank you to everyone for your continued service to the council and the parish. If you are a new member and are looking for a way to get more involved, please send me an email at brennanpj@sbcglobal.net and would be happy answer any questions to get you connected with an activity of interest. Have a Great, October, Go Cards! Vivat Jesus, Pat Brennan Grand Knight Council 12986 Faith based Topic: What is a Miracle A miracle is an event not explicable by natural or scientific laws. Such an event may be attributed to a supernatural being (God or gods), a miracle worker, a saint or a religious leader. Theologians say that, with divine providence, gods regularly work through created nature yet are free to work without, above, or against it as well. The word "miracle" is often used to characterize any beneficial event that is statistically unlikely but not contrary to the laws of nature, such as surviving a natural disaster, or simply a "wonderful" occurrence, regardless of likelihood, such as a birth. Other miracles might be: survival of an illness diagnosed as terminal, escaping a life-threatening situation or 'beating the odds'. Some coincidences may be seen as miracles. 2 Brother Knights, Do you have children in the 6 th, 7 th, or 8 th grades, either in the Parish School or PSR? Are they among the small group of Altar Servers? If the answer is no Why Not! It is never too early to instill in your children the responsibility to serve God by becoming active in the parish. Being an Altar Server is a great way to do this. It is also a great way for the children to learn about and understand our Catholic Liturgy. There is a critical need for additional Altar Servers for both the weekday (Adult volunteers are now serving at the daily masses) and for all weekend Masses (Saturday 5:00 PM, and Sundays at 8:00, 9:45, and 11:30 AM.). Presently we have 24 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th graders to serve at the 4 Weekend Masses. That s a total of almost 30 masses per month (Not including any funerals, weddings or other special feast days or special occasions). Ideally, we would like to have 3 servers at each Weekend Mass and 2 Servers for each daily mass. Please contact Sr. Amy in the Parish Office for more information. Our last meeting was held on Tuesday September 15 th. Arriving early to recite the Rosary were Carl Schiley, Treasurer Ron Huelsmann, Recorder Rod Schnurr, Greg Mathiesen, Ron Jacober, Chuck Gilbert, Jim Frese, PGK Dan Brady, Insurance Agent Jim O Connell and Tom Henning. Attending the meeting, in addition to the above, Grand Knights Pat Brennan, DGK Dan Schoenekase, Warden Kurtis Suellentrop, Lecturer Neil Thole, Scott Rogles, Tim Probst, Mike Shea, Stas Wolak, Steve Veighe, and Dave Davis. November 17 th First Degree Initiation December 15 th Annual Christmas Party (In the Church basement) Catered by Pasta House January 10 th Mississippi Valley Blood Drive Sponsored by the Christ Prince of Peace KofC (After all Sunday Masses) January 19 th Special Guest Speaker Zip Rzeppa

We meet at the Mary Statue on the South side of the church (If wet or cold weather, we will meet in the church basement) at 7:00 PM a half-hour prior to the General Meeting) each month to recite the Rosary. If you have a special Intention or if there is someone that needs our prayers, please contact Chuck Gilbert at 636-256- 8748 or e-mail drury1971@gmail.com. The 2015 Annual K of C Soccer Challenge was held on Friday evening, September 25 th. The Knights provided a great BBQ of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and hot dogs for all that attended. The Soccer Challenge is a free event and is sponsored annually by the Knights, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. All shooters compete in their respective age divisions. The competition consists of 15 penalty shots. Scores are determined by where the shot lands in the net. See the pictures of the winners of this year s Council and District events at the end of this newsletter. The District 54 Finals was also be held at Christ Prince of Peace on Sunday, October 4 th. For further information please contact: Ed Tumbarello at (314) 374-0493 On Saturday, September 26 th, the Knights of Columbus provided the food and cooks for the 7 th Annual CPOP Kickball Tournament. Thanks to all the Volunteers who maned the Grill and Serving Tent. Proceeds from the Kickball Tournament and the sale of the food will go to Marygrove in St. Charles. Thank you again to all of the players, sponsors and volunteers for the KofC CPOP 2015 Golf Tournament. I am starting to plan the 2016 Tournament and scouting potential locations. Please let me know if you have any ideas! Kurtis Suellentrop The 2015 Annual Knights of Columbus Drive for Persons with Developmental Disabilities will be conducted by the Christ Prince of Peace Knights of Columbus over the weekend of October 17 th and 18 th (Locations will be announced soon). All Knights are asked to volunteer for at least a one-hour shift and to be available after the Weekend Masses to distribute the Tootsie Rolls and collect the donations. ********************************************* Knight Volunteers at the 2015 Soccer Challenge WRYT 1080 AM KHOJ 1460 AM www.covenantnet.net Evangelizing the Catholic Faith through Radio ********************************************* 3

Christ, Prince of Peace Christus-Prinz des Friedens During the week of September 28 th through October 2 nd, Covenant Network, the Catholic Radio network that is headquartered in St. Louis, held its fall Radiothon fund raiser. The Christ Prince of Peace Knights of Columbus participated in a Challenge Pledge where if the network could raise $2,500 in pledges during the 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM period on Tuesday, September 29 th, the council would donate an additional $1,000 to Covenant Network. The challenge was met and Past Grand Knight Greg Mathiesen from Christ Prince of Peace was in the studio on Tuesday morning to present the check on the air to Deacon Jim Russell. A German tradition worthy of celebrating, and great chance to socialize with your Brother Knights and Parish Families. Enjoy a variety traditional German foods, beer/wine, music, bonfires. All accompanied this year by the PTO s involvement, which is sure to keep the kids busy with a host of games, crafts, movies and pumpkin decorating. What about Cardinals Baseball you ask???, we have it covered with big screens located in the Biergarten. We'll be celebrating this year on Saturday October 10th from 6pm - 10pm. Several spots remain open on the volunteer list for Saturday evening, with help needed in kitchen prep and cooking, ticket sales, food sales and BEER sales, and clean up. See Sign Up Genius link for more details, and please consider volunteering a couple of hours of your time. As always, your generosity with your time is appreciated. Prost! www.signupgenius.com/go/30e054da5a92da75- oktoberfest2 Contact Kurtis Suellentrop or Jim Hill with any questions. The Religious Information Bureau (RIB) is the Missouri Knights of Columbus's evangelical arm -- our way of proclaiming the "good news" of our faith to our non-catholic brethren and to those of us who thirst for continuing knowledge of the Catholic Faith. Through our support of the RIB, we are sharing our faith with those who want to learn more about the Catholic Church. Every year a portion of your annual dues ($7.50) is applied to the Religious Information Bureau and 2 times each year a letter is sent to all of the Knights in the state requesting additional support. Once again, the Christ Prince of Peace Knights of Columbus will be providing the mulch and the manpower to spread it around the Christ Prince of Peace Parish property. The tentative date for the Spread the Mulch event is Saturday, November 7 th from 9 to 11 AM. When the job is completed there will be BBQ Hamburgers and Hot Dogs along with liquid refreshments for all volunteers. The cost of the mulch is approx. $300-400 range, plus cost of burgers/drinks. It is estimated that about 15 guys should be able to handle the job. However, no one will be turned away. 4 Picture from the 2013 Spread The Mulch event

6 A Knights of Columbus council can work wonders; in fact, with its many programs, it can help change the community, or neighborhood in which you live. However, a successful K of C program is more than the words you see written here or in any Supreme Council publication. It s more than a suggestion at a meeting. A program needs people taking the initial idea, modifying it to suit specific situations and local needs, then implementing the program in a way that works. The above quote is from the Knights of Columbus Service Program Guide. The Christ Prince of Peace council is still a relatively new and developing council. We were chartered in 2001. In the past 14 years our membership has grown consistently and we have become more involved in the Parish Community with many Service Programs. Here is a list of the Service Programs and the associated committees and their Directors. A great debt of gratitude to all of the Brother Knights listed below. Without your involvement our council would not exist: The complete list of Officers and Program and Committee Chairmen can be found on the Last page of the Newsletter. If you are not now actively involved in our council activities or if you want to increase your involvement, now is a great time to become an active member. If you are not interested being the director of a program or a committee, you can become a member of a committee. The four Principles upon which the Knights of Columbus were founded are: Charity: - To share our time, talents and treasures with those in need. Unity: To work together to accomplish deeds not achievable individually. Fraternity: To aid our Brother and his family Patriotism: To serve and honor our country in the Church and in the community. All of the Programs and committees listed at the end of this newsletter are formed around these principles.
