Questions, please contact Alison Archer, aarcher@stmarkindy.org! Pastor s Note At the end of November the priests of the three parishes St. Pius, St. Barnabas, and St. Mark who are involved in the Burmese Ministry met to create a proposal for the residence and ministry of Fr. Eustace Thawng Cem Thang, the international priest when he arrives from Myanmar in December or January. The challenge was regarding the impact on mid-year budgets for each parish. We were told there would not be an increase in financial support for the Burmese Ministry from the archdiocese, and we need to plan for no financial assistance for the Burmese Ministry by the archdiocese in the future. The archdiocese has graciously given $10,000 annually but is not planning on any financial support toward the Burmese Ministry in future years. The agreement supported by all three parishes and approved by the archdiocese was that St. Barnabas will pay the salary, food, and housing expenses for Fr. Eustace from the time of his arrival until July 1 2019. Fr. Eustace will live at the rectory of St. Barnabas and his full time position will be at St. Barnabas. We are blessed that Fr. David BuNyar will continue as the Associate Pastor of St. Pius and St. Mark. Blessed Advent, Fr. Bill

Advent Giving Tree ST. MARK IS AGAIN SPONSORING THE ADVENT GIVING TREE. The money collected from this project funds the HOOP Outreach Ministry (Helping Our Own People), helps some of our own parishioners, and other parish neighbors who may find that they need help with some unexpected emergency or with providing Christmas for their family. HOOP is the ministry that prepares food for the homeless in downtown Indianapolis. Three times each month, 15 St. Mark volunteers prepare soup, sandwiches, chips, a sweet treat, coffee, lemonade, or hot cocoa which other volunteers load into their cars and distribute to the homeless. Each year our volunteers prepare 2,250 meals for the homeless!! The money needed to purchase the supplies for this outreach comes from your Advent Giving Tree HOOP donations. Parishioners have been extremely generous in their response to both of these outreach ministries in the past. We are hoping for that same outcome this Advent season. This is your opportunity to help someone whom you may never meet or know personally. It is your chance to be Christ to them. Remember, we can never be more generous than God. The tree will be in the Narthex from November 24th until December 16th. Your donations can be placed in the collection basket until the end of December. Thanks in advance for your contributions to this project. Outreach Ministry ELSIE'S HATS & GLOVES COLLECTION, DECEMBER 2 DECEMBER 16, 2018 The St. Mark tradition of collecting winter hats, gloves and scarves for the less fortunate continues again this year. Begun MANY years ago by our parishioner, Elsie Hoovler. This long-standing endeavor has warmed the heads, hands, and hearts of many, many grateful people over the years. Again this year we will be collecting new winter hats, gloves, and scarves of all kinds. These will be distributed to the homeless through the St. Mark HOOP ministry and will also be distributed through the Catholic Charities Christmas Store in Indianapolis that serves over 3000 needy children of all ages each Christmas season. Your donations can be placed in the baskets in the narthex and are greatly appreciated by those who receive them. Please consider purchasing men's gloves, as they are our greatest need. Thank you! The Spiritual Life Committee will host two evenings of prayer and meditation on the First and Second Sundays of Advent at 5:00 PM in the Church. Evening Prayer is celebrated in order that 'we may give thanks for what has been given to us during the day.' We send up our prayer 'like incense in the Lord's sight,' in which 'the raising up of our hands' becomes 'an evening sacrifice. As we come to the setting of the sun and have seen the evening star, we sing in praise of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Deacon Paul Fisherkeller will lead us in Evening Prayer and offer a guided Meditation in order that we might open our hearts to the Mystery of God s Presence as we await the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ. This is a great way to prayerfully enhance your personal experience of the Advent Season this year. Let this be a Spiritual Oasis in the often hectic weeks leading up to Christmas. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. If you are in need of transportation, please contact Rita East at 317-784-0455.
