St. Jude Parish Advisory Council: March 15, 2006 All Saints October 31st & November 1st, 2015 St. Jude 2015 Christmas Giving Tree Join in the true spirit of Christmas by spreading Christ gift of love with an outreach to the underprivileged in our area. Our 2015 Giving Trees will be up near the entrances to the Church by November 14th-15th. The trees hold ornaments that represent needy families in our church parish and community area. Each ornament has a particular family number and a gift wish. If you participate in the Giving Tree project, PLEASE follow the below listed instructions: Take one or more ornaments off the tree beginning November 14th. Purchase the item listed on the ornament. (The gender of the recipient is listed, followed by his/her age.) Wrap the gift and tape the ornament firmly on the outside of the package for identification and sorting. Return the wrapped gift or gifts to the church office or place under Christmas trees before Masses. All gifts must be returned no later than the morning of Friday, 12/7 Please, please be prompt so we know if any gift request has not been filled. Thank you for your sacrifice and loving support of this annual program. ***Very, very important!*** Please do not take an ornament if you cannot purchase the gift AND DO NOT ALLOW CHILDREN TO TAKE ORNAMENTS WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE. Although we sincerely appreciate your desire to help, last year we had 28 gifts NOT TURNED IN. (Ornaments had been taken.) Thank you.

FROM THE TEE BOX A Few Thoughts from Our Pastor Dear Friends: From the Tee Box! October 31 November 1, 2015 The Solemnity of All Saints Last weekend we celebrated 3 rites here in Saint Jude Parish. On Saturday we welcomed our candidates and catechumens during the 4:00pm Mass. On Sunday we recognized our 9th and 10th grade Confirmation students during the 9:45am and 11:30am Masses within the Rites of Discernment and Commitment. Congratulations to all! On Wednesday of this past week we said goodbye to Msgr. Leo Guillot, a long time priest of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, who passed away. Bishop Muench and several of our priests and deacons gathered at St. Joseph Cathedral with Msgr. Guillot s family to bid him farewell. Father Leo, as many knew him, was a wonderful man and an avid golfer! He was one of the priests who interviewed me when I applied to enter the seminary. In this month of All Saints and All Souls we give special remembrance to all those who have gone before us, and we draw strength from the eternal, spiritual bond that we know we share with them. Our new ministry building should be ready toward the middle or end of this month. We re not exactly sure yet, as we are awaiting the arrival of furniture. I will keep you posted. Have a great week! Sincerely, Fr. Trey Nelson Pastor The Feasts of All Saints and All Souls It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord. In him the hope of blessed resurrection has dawned, that those saddened by the certainty of dying might be consoled by the promise of immortality to come. Indeed for your faithful, Lord, life is changed not ended, and, when this earthly dwelling turns to dust, an eternal dwelling is made ready for them in heaven. (from the Preface for the Mass of Christian Burial)

Alan Ames From Perth, Australia Visits LA: St. Thomas More Catholic Church Hosts Catholic Evangelist, Mystic With the Gift of Healing: November 10th, 6:30pm 11441 Goodwood Blvd. For More Information: www.alanames.org Culture of Life Reflections: Pope Francis, addressing a single mother in Los Angeles in an August 2015 virtual audience, said, I know it's not easy being a single mother but I tell you one thing: you re a brave woman because you were able to bring these two daughters into the world. You could have killed them in your womb, and you respected life, you respected the life that you had in you, and God is going to reward you. Students representing the 7th and 8th grade service organizations (Jr. BETA Club and Community Cougars) were able to represent St. Jude parish in it's adopted 40 Days for Life day on October 19th. The students traveled to the Delta Clinic and occupied space opposite the site for an hour of peaceful public witness on what it means to respect life right here in our community. Fellow St. Jude parishioner, Danielle Van Haute, was also present during the students visit; as the current respect life coordinator for the office of Marriage and Family Life in the Diocese of Baton Rouge, Van Haute was able to discuss the 40 days for Life campaign happening in 307 cities around the world. This was a powerful experience for the students who prayed to end the tragedy of abortion.
