FROM THE TEE BOX A Few Thoughts from Our Pastor Dear Friends: From the Tee Box! October 31 November 1, 2015 The Solemnity of All Saints Last weekend we celebrated 3 rites here in Saint Jude Parish. On Saturday we welcomed our candidates and catechumens during the 4:00pm Mass. On Sunday we recognized our 9th and 10th grade Confirmation students during the 9:45am and 11:30am Masses within the Rites of Discernment and Commitment. Congratulations to all! On Wednesday of this past week we said goodbye to Msgr. Leo Guillot, a long time priest of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, who passed away. Bishop Muench and several of our priests and deacons gathered at St. Joseph Cathedral with Msgr. Guillot s family to bid him farewell. Father Leo, as many knew him, was a wonderful man and an avid golfer! He was one of the priests who interviewed me when I applied to enter the seminary. In this month of All Saints and All Souls we give special remembrance to all those who have gone before us, and we draw strength from the eternal, spiritual bond that we know we share with them. Our new ministry building should be ready toward the middle or end of this month. We re not exactly sure yet, as we are awaiting the arrival of furniture. I will keep you posted. Have a great week! Sincerely, Fr. Trey Nelson Pastor The Feasts of All Saints and All Souls It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord. In him the hope of blessed resurrection has dawned, that those saddened by the certainty of dying might be consoled by the promise of immortality to come. Indeed for your faithful, Lord, life is changed not ended, and, when this earthly dwelling turns to dust, an eternal dwelling is made ready for them in heaven. (from the Preface for the Mass of Christian Burial)

You could have killed them in your womb, and you respected life, you respected the life that you had in you, and God is going to reward you. Students representing the 7th and 8th grade service organizations (Jr. BETA Club and Community Cougars) were able to represent St. Jude parish in it's adopted 40 Days for Life day on October 19th. The students traveled to the Delta Clinic and occupied space opposite the site for an hour of peaceful public witness on what it means to respect life right here in our community. Fellow St. Jude parishioner, Danielle Van Haute, was also present during the students visit; as the current respect life coordinator for the office of Marriage and Family Life in the Diocese of Baton Rouge, Van Haute was able to discuss the 40 days for Life campaign happening in 307 cities around the world. This was a powerful experience for the students who prayed to end the tragedy of abortion.
