Gradually, we are getting there, the unconquerable gift of joy. Happiness is an emotion that can disappear as quickly as it rises to the surface. Joy however, is a choice. We have a choice as God gives us a joy that is unconquerable. We can choose to live in an attitude of resentment, anger and fear or we can choose to pursue the joy of Christ. Joy is trusting when you and I want to doubt. We need to always trust in the Lord because God is an everlasting Rock. As followers of Christ, we are not pressured to do it at all for everyone. We trust in God to do the heavy lifting. All we need is to have Mary's response to the coming of Christ,...'' I am the Lord's handmaid, She said, May it be done unto me according to your word.''(luke 1;38) ''Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise'' as said today from the Gospel. Can you imagine how the innkeeper would have felt if he said to Mary and Joseph,.Of course you can't stay in that stable! That is for paying customers. Who do you take me for? Thus, we find joy in making room for people in need. We put smiles, happiness and joy on the faces of many people in need. Do not neglect to show hospitality for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guests without knowing it. The message is very clear. God is not looking for ways to scare us into faith. He rather draws closer to us to relieve the worries we have about crossing over to divide between heaven and earth. The joy and happiness in the Lord that we celebrate today is symbolized by lighting a rose candle on the advent wreath today instead of a purple one and also symbolized by wearing rose vestments today instead of purple ones. The first step to become happy in the Lord is to give up sin so that we can live a life of grace with the Lord... As in the Gospel, three times people asked John the Baptist What hey should do. Each time he told them to give up something, or not to be greedy. Our journey of conversion is a journey from wanting and being greedy and possessive to becoming unselfish. That was the journey John asked his followers and hearers to make and the journey we are challenged and called to make this advent so that we will have true joy and happiness to celebrate at Christmas rather than just Santa Claus coming to town. May God continue to bless you and your family this season of Advent. 3. NEXT SUNDAY S READINGS DECEMBER 23, 2018 FIRST READING - Micah 5:1-4 Thus says the LORD: You, Bethlehem-Ephrathah too small to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel; whose origin is from of old, from ancient times. Therefore the Lord will give them up, until the time when she who is to give birth has borne, and the rest of his kindred shall return to the children of Israel. He shall stand firm and shepherd his flock by the strength of the LORD, in the majestic name of the LORD, his God; and they shall remain, for now his greatness shall reach to the ends of the earth; he shall be peace. SECOND READING - Hebrews 10:5-10 Brothers and sisters: When Christ came into the world, he said:"sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; in holocausts and sin offerings you took no delight. Then I said, 'As is written of me in the scroll, behold, I come to do your will, O God.'" First he says, "Sacrifices and offerings, holocausts and Key Scriptural Passage: Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. (Phil 4:4-5) Questions for Discussion: Adult: To whom have your past acts of kindness brought joy? What act of kindness could you do this week? Child: What kind thing have you done for someone lately? Whom could you make happy by your kindness this week? Readings For The Week Monday..Gn 49:2,8-10/Mt 1:1-17 Tuesday..Jer 23:5-8/Mt 1:18-25 Wednesday.Jgs 13:2-7,24-25/Lk 1:5-25 Thursday. Is 7:10-14/Lk 1:26-38 Friday..Sg 2:8-14/Lk 1:39-45 Saturday..1 Sm 1:24-28/Lk 1:46-56 Knights of Columbus Council 2490 will sponsor a Community Blood Drive on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at the Columbus Club Hall from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is the last blood drive for 2018. These are offered according to the law. Then he says, :Behold, I come to do your will." He takes away the first to establish the second. By this "will," we have been consecrated through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. GOSPEL - Luke 1:39-45 Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled." Incarnate Word Convent Chapel - Solemn Vespers on Dec 16 and 23 (5:00-5:45 p.m.) Solemn Vespers is the Liturgical evening prayer of the church. This prayer focuses on praying the psalms, giving thanks for day and offering praise to God. Pro-Life Corner We have a choice. Prepare The Way Of The Lord Celebration: The Third Sunday of Advent On this Sunday we celebrate and rejoice in the eternal power of God. The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the afflicted, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, release to the prisoners, to announce a year of favor from the Lord and a day of vindication by our God. (Isaiah 61:1-2) Advent Wreath Prayer: Light the third, rose-colored candle and say: The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light! (Isaiah 9:1-2) God of blessings, we celebrate your good gifts and rejoice at the gift of your son, Jesus. Amen. Family Advent Activity... Bless the Tree As you put up the family Christmas tree, give thanks to God for the gift of evergreens in the winter, lights to remind us of Jesus coming into the world, and special ornaments that remind us of family, friends, and holidays past. Reflect: What does the evergreen teach about God s love for us? (Hint: it is everlasting!)
