From Fr. Antonio's desk GOD OF PROMISES FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT The world we live in is very often a world of false promises, and a world of tainted values. A lot of the time we - people of faith are in awe at the disappointments that cause human beings to be weak; a weakness and instability in our hearts to remain faithful to that promise. Sometimes the betrayal of a promise is something that others use to hurt us, and very often that pain is our weakness, a way to hurt someone close to us. It seems that this understanding is imposed on us by all the forces in the world: a culture that says that nothing is permanent, nothing is worth sacrifice, nothing is eternal. On the other hand, God comes to meet us in Christmas and shows us once again that His love is permanent. He proves by His example that it is worth it to sacrifice for those we love. He introduces us into the hall of eternity with the strength of His divine love, where we also savor the gifts of heaven and we become stakeholders of his glory. That is why in the season of Advent our hearts and our lives should be renewed with the power of this reality: the God who we encounter is the God of Promise. Despite all of our wandering, God never gets tired of forgiving us and giving us His grace to move on. Let us make this holy time of anticipation a time that we will pray for the grace of God. That God gives us the devotion and strength to keep us faithful to our Christian name and calling. Uvodi nas snagom svoje božanske ljubavi u predvorje vjenosti, gdje i mi kušamo darove neba i postajemo dionici njegove slave.
LET US PRAY FOR OUR DECEASED Pearl Vukas, 82, mother of Anthony, Michael and Vi-ncent (Sandy) Zygmuntowicz; grandmother of Vincent; sister of Martin (Carol), Vincent (Kathy), Mary Ann (late Terry) and the late John (Delores); aunt to many nieces and nephews. Funeral mass was celebrated in our church on Tuesday, Nov 20. May she rest in peace! CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEW AL- TAR SERVERS Last Sunday, November 25, six new altar servers were commissioned for liturgical ministry in our parish. Congratulations to them and to their families. To serve at the altar is a great honor but also a big responsibility. Let us keep them in our prayers. ADVENT GIVING TREE We have an Advent Giving Tree in our church. That is a wonderful opportunity for St. Jerome Parish families to reach out and extend a hand to the poor in our midst who without our help would not have Christmas gifts for their children. Please, read the cards carefully to see the due date and whether gifts should be wrapped or not. PARISH CONFESSIONS On Sunday, December 23, at 6 p.m. we will have several priests available for the sacrament of reconciliation. They will hear confessions in a quiet, peaceful atmosphere ideal for examining our conscience. Amid all our preparations for Christmas, we should not forget the priority of preparing our souls. CHRISTMAS FLOWERS If you would like to make a donation in memory of your loved ones or in thanksgiving for special events in your live, please, see Mary and Louis Scalise, Jan and Kenny Zekich or call our Parish Office. OFFERTORY ENVELOPES Soon you will be able to take your box of envelopes for year 2019. They will be prepared in the entrance area of the church. Please, let us know if you are regular parishioner but without offertory envelopes. VISITING SICK AND HOMEBOUND We would like to visit our sick and homebound parishioners before Christmas. Let us know if there is someone at home, in hospital or somewhere else who desires the Sacraments, so that we can visit them. CHRISTMAS CHURCH CLEANING On Tuesday, December 18, at 7 p.m. we will be cleaning our church and preparing it for Christmas. Please join us and let us make our spiritual home ready for the Coming of our Lord. BREAKFAST WITH SANTA St. Jerome Catholic School is hosting breakfast with Santa, today after all masses in our school hall. Join us for great food and good time! CHRISTMAS CONFESSION Christmas confession for our school students, parents and staff will be on Tuesday, December 18 at 9 a.m. This is an important step in our preparation for the Coming of our Lord! OPEN HOUSE & SCHOOL TOUR On Wednesday, December 12 our School will be open for all the visitors who want to experience what our school is offering. Spread the news among your friends and family and let us make our school even stronger. Looking forward to see you all on December 12th. ST. JEROME GOES GREEN We have implemented recycling at school for the children to be aware of what is waste and what is recyclable. Each class has their own recylce bin. Our next step is to participate in crayola ColorCycle. They turn used markers intoenergy (ANY BRAND). The markers are sent to facility where they are converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals etc. It also keeps tons of plastic out of landfills. Our goal is to collect 1000 markers by Christmas. Drop-off boxes are located in school and in the back of church. Thank you in advance for helping us save the earth.
