First United Methodist Church 103 W Main Street P.O. Box 72 www.newbernfumc.org Phone (731) 627-3386 Fax (731) 627-2261 Message from Pastor Gus Last Sunday I informed the congregation that I will be resigning from serving the Mt. Carmel-Newbern congregations. I have decided not to finish the process of becoming an elder in the United Methodist Church. My intention is to seek service once again within the Christian Church Disciples of Christ. Our hope is to get closer to our family. We would like to not have so far to travel to see our daughter and grandchildren; yet not be too far from Daniel, should he decide to remain in this area. Considering Marlene s health situation, it would be good for her to see our grandkids more often than she currently does. It was a very difficult decision to make. We love everyone here and wherever we do move; our home will always be open to all of you. At this time, I do not know where we will be going or the final date of my service. My hope is that an opportunity to serve will occur by June when pastors are normally moved. Please keep us in your prayers as we take this step of faith, and we ll pray you will have the pastor appointed that will be a good fit. Again, let me express my gratitude for being allowed to serve you. Pastor Gus Do not pay back evil with evil or cursing with cursing; instead, pay back with a blessing, because a blessing is what God promised to give you when he called you. 1 Peter 3:9 (GNT) NFUMC Services Sunday Adult Sunday School: 9:45 am Worship Service: 11:00 am Nursery and Children s Worship (Pre K to Grade 3): 11:00 am Wednesday Adult Groups & A.C.T.S.
