Mt. Zion Church of Ontario Statement to Read before Leading Responsive Reading Acts 2:41-47 (NASB) Good Morning! Our theme for 2018 is Living for God-Sized Results! Join me in reading the refreshing teaching from Jesus, regarding living for God-sized results. Minister 41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. Congregation 42 They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Minister 43 Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. Congregation 44 And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; Minister Everyone 45 and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. 46 Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved. 3

Serve With The God Who Does the Impossible! Luke 2:26-38 Pastor Brian Kennedy, Sr. TEXT QUESTIONS TO PASTOR AS HE IS PREACHING TO: (909) 638-2696 Key Statement: Don t worry, God will find you and secure your service (Luke 1:26-33). 1. Mary was doing life as a virgin preparing for her wedding day (vs. 26-29). a. What a fine time for God to recruit Mary (vs. 26-27). b. The stages of the Jewish wedding tradition. c. The start of the recruitment meeting troubled Mary (vs. 28-29). i. Why was Mary so troubled? 2. God picked Mary for an assignment connected to His redemptive plan (vs. 30-33). a. You don t need to be afraid (v. 30). b. You are God s choice (v. 30). c. You will become a pregnant virgin (v. 31). d. You will name the son you birth, Jesus (v. 32). e. You will birth the Great, Eternal King (vs. 32-33; cf. Isaiah 9:6-7). 3. God empowered Mary to do life as His representative (vs. 34-37). a. Mary did not doubt God, but had an honest question about her enablement as His servant (v. 34). A pregnant virgin carrying God is humanly impossible. b. God explained the role of the The Primary Empowerment Agent in our service to Him (v. 35; cf. Phil. 2:13; John 14:15-17). c. God encouraged Mary with news of another humanly impossible birth and a statement of His power (vs. 36-37). 4. Mary naturally submitted to the service of God (v. 38). a. God s call (vs. 26-27), God s favor (vs. 28, 30), God s purpose (vs. 31-33), God s empowerment (v. 35), God s miracles (v. 36), and God s omnipotence (v. 37), gives us confidence to willingly submit to any assignment from Him. Question: Do you ever wonder how Mary really felt about this unusual assignment laced with the seemingly impossible. How did she feel about being a pregnant virgin during a time when pregnancy outside of marriage was unacceptable? What about people whispering about her pregnancy before the wedding? Check out her time of praise with her cousin Martha in Luke 1:46-55. Church, try praising God for your assignment versus worrying about what people think, so you can enjoy serving with the God, Who does the impossible. Personal Challenge: 1. Answer this question: despite what seems impossible, am I doing my God given assignment? 2. As you do life, keep your heart open to God recruiting you to serve in areas that seem impossible. Like Mary, quickly say yes, so that you can witness God s miracles. Personal Prayer: Dear Lord, Your choosing Mary to advance Your plan to restore humankind back to Yourself lets me know that I too am on Your radar. Lord, clarify Your call on my life, and through the Holy Spirit, Your Empowerment Agent, empower me to give You a lifetime of faithful service. Lord, I anticipate witnessing You do the humanly impossible as I serve You. I live to love and serve You. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen. 8
