CELEBRATE RESPECT LIFE MONTH You're invited to join Catholics nationwide in celebrating Respect Life Month this October with the message "Every Life: Cherished, Chosen, Sent"! Visit www.usccb.org/respectlife to learn more. ANOTHER LOOK AT ABORTION If someone takes an innocent person s life after he or she is born, it s against the law; before birth (even minutes before, in most states) it s legal because of the U.S. Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Abortion results in the death of a child. For many, abortion causes severe and long-lasting emotional, psychological, and spiritual trauma, and other detrimental effects have also been documented. (For help, visit HopeAfterAbortion.org) 55+ ALIVE CLUB NEWS The club will meet for lunch on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at 11:30 a.m., at O Charley s, on Outer Loop. We like free pie! Following lunch, we will proceed to the All Saints Room of the St. Bernard Annex for our meeting and games. Bring your pennies and come see how much fun we have! For information, call: Carol French at 751-1731. All articles for The Connection quarterly newsletter are due today. Articles and information may also be emailed to newsletter@stbernardlou.com. The editing team will meet Tuesday, October 16, at 7:00 p.m., in the annex. So, what are we to do? The Church does not approach difficult pregnancy decisions with a false either/or mentality, pitting mother against child. We love them both! Learn more at www. usccb.org/abortion. THIS COMING WEEK UNLOCKING THE MYSTERY OF THE BIBLE This coming Monday (October 8) the afternoon group will be looking at the periods of Conquest and Judges and Royal Kingdom (Taken from the Bible narrative books of Joshua, Judges, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 Kings 1-2). In Conquest and Judges, God led Israel triumphantly in the Promised Land. In Canaan, God established Israel as a Royal Kingdom under David and promised him an eternal throne. The evening group will be looking at Egypt and Exodus and Desert Wanderings periods. (Bible narrative books of Exodus, Numbers). In Egypt and Exodus, God freed his people from slavery so they could worship him. God taught Israel to trust him through forty years of Desert Wanderings It s never too late to join us to get the full story of how these events are part of your story. Noon 1:00 PM in the All Saints Room or from 7:00 8:00 PM in the Checkerboard Room. REST IN PEACE Please pray for the family and friends of parishioner Mike Kremer; Donnie Beirne, brother of Angel Kissel; and Earl Bielefeld, father of Jennifer Powers, stepfather of Brenda McClure, and grandfather of Audrey Powers and Blake Morgan, who passed away recently. May they enjoy the Eternal Peace of the Risen Lord. PLANNED GIVING Where there is a will, there is a way to be an angel for our parish.
