Progress is a continuing effort to make the things we eat, drink and wear as good as they used to be. Delany 10 Massapequa Elks Lodge #2162 January 2012 EXALTED RULER S MESSAGE Happy New Year to all our members! Now let s ring in 2012 with enthusiasm and good fellowship. We did very well financially last year and it appears to be carrying over this year with catering and we had some successful programs like our Elks Dictionary Program which gave out several hundred dictionaries to the 3 rd graders at Birch Lane and McKenna Elementary School. A big Thanks to our Secretary Jim Justus for spearheading this program. I m hoping that all our committees continue to do a good job and reach their goals this year. Greg Vogel ran a successful Hoop Shoot for our lodge and had great group of members who help him make the event go smoothly. Gina Munsey ran our C.P. Elks Party and it was one of the best we had to date. Gina and her committee served food to over 240 Children and their Families and each child received a present from Santa. Gina has been a fantastic Major Projects committee Chairperson and I hope she continues to run this committee for years to come. We also had our Children s Christmas Party in December and several of our members and their children and grandchildren had a wonderful time and received presents from Santa. In February we will have nominations for officers of our lodge. I cannot express how important these positions are and plead with the membership to consider running for the positions available! It causes a stress on the lodge and the incoming Exalted Ruler if these roles of leadership are not filled. We will be having the Committee Man s Dinner on January 21, 2012 at 8pm. Everyone who has served on a committee is welcome to attend. Please see your Committee Chairperson for tickets. I want to thank everyone who helped make 2011 a good year and hope they continue to support us in upcoming year. Always remember The Faults of our members we write upon the sand, Their Virtues upon the Tablets of Love and Memory. God Bless you all and stay healthy. Fraternally Yours Frank Delany ER

Page 3 Massapequa Elks Lodge #2162 January 2012 It s Election Time Again. The upcoming month of February is set aside for the annual nominations and elections for the coming year. Nominations will be open, as written in Article 7 section 1 of our By-Laws on Monday, February 6th, 2012 and again on Mon., February 13th, 2012. Elections would normally be held on the third Mon. of February, however, the third Monday is Presidents Day and the Lodge will be closed so the election will be held Monday, February 27th. On Monday, February 27th, if any positions do not have a person nominated a nomination may be made from the floor. If all positions have a person nominated no nominations for that position can be made from the floor. A written ballot, will be available, if necessary, for voting on the night of the election. Any member who wishes to vote must present a 2011-2012 membership card to the Secretary in order to receive a ballot. Fraternally, Jim Justus Secretary SAYING GOOD-BYE Saying good-bye is never easy and that can well be expressed in the lines of a song made famous by an Italian crooner named Sinatra. It goes and now the time is near as I face the final curtain. Regrets, I have a few but of one thing I am certain... As we say good-bye to year 2011 and approach the final curtain can we be certain of one thing? Can we face the new year 2012 knowing we did our best in the previous year? During ritual we heard the Lecturing Knight describe what Brotherly Love is. Can we all say that we have extended the hand in friendship, lightened each others burdens and brought rest to the weary? Let me tell you, you can extend a hand in friendship and lighten someone s burden and bring rest to the weary. But most of all you can, truly, show Brotherly Love and put your mind to rest that you have done the best you could possibly do. Before you do another thing make a donation to the Elks National Foundation. Help bring rest to the weary, tired Veteran in a V.A. Hospital or a Nursing Home. Extend a hand in friendship to a student who needs a scholarship to attain a college education. Help to lighten the burdens of a family with a child suffering from C.P. Become a WILD THING and become someone who makes their hearts sing. Become a member of the Great Heart of Elkdom. Make out a check for $20.00, $25.00 or more made payable to the Elks National Foundation and mail it to the lodge or hand it to me at the next meeting. A THANK YOU goes out to the following members: Gilda Russo, John Bailey, Arthur Bayen, Vincent DiStefano, James Mango, Joseph Zablocki, Thomas Healy, David Ingram, Alfred Beyer, Thomas Warmingham, Richard Milhaven & Frances Ward.
