Sukkot Day I (Monday) - David's Sukkah: A Biblical Conundrum Rabbi Ian Shaffer. 5:50PM Rabbi Ian Shaffer was educated in both London and Israel. He received a BA and MA in Jewish Studies from Jews College in London. A musmach of Gateshead Yeshiva and of Kolel Meretz in Mevasseret Zion, he was a pulpit rabbi in London for 3 years. Rabbi Shaffer was deputy head of Jewish Studies at Immanuel College in London for eight years. After moving to the United States, he started teaching Navi/Bible at Stern College. Currently he also works at Barnard College as the supervisor for Kosher food services and teaching in a Sunday program in Bergen County. He has been giving a public weekly shiur on Navi for a number of years, which appears on yutorah.org, and he lectures in a number of programs in his local district and at Block and Hexter summer camp in the Poconos. Daf Yomi is a daily regimen of Talmud study. The entire Talmud is completed, one day at a time, in seven and a half years. Tens of thousands of Jews worldwide study in the Daf Yomi program. A course developed by the National Jewish Outreach Program geared to those with a basic knowledge of the Hebrew Alphabet who wish to improve their reading skills and comprehension. Hazard Mitigation Grant Program Informational Meeting Wednesday, October 7, 2015 6:00 pm 8:00 pm Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center 5601 S. Braeswood Blvd., Houston, TX 77096 The City of Houston, in partnership with Texas Department of Emergency Management, is applying for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) grant to assist qualified homeowners with the cost of mitigating flood prone properties. Homeowners may choose to request funding for home elevation or demolitionreconstruction HMGP is a state wide competitive program and funding is not guaranteed. HMGP is a separate grant opportunity from the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Grant Program which was recently submitted to FEMA. At this meeting, an update on the status of the FEMA grant application will be provided Please note that interested homeowners must submit all required documents before 5p.m. November 6, 2015 to be considered for inclusion in the HMGP grant application.
