Trestle Board: 2016 WORDS OF WISDOM FROM THE EAST Wor. Travis R. Christiansen, Master I have been thinking a lot about my love of country this week. The Battle of Lexington and Concord took place on April 19. 1775. It appears that 9 signers of the Declaration of Independence were Freemasons including John Hancock. 13 signers or roughly 1/3 of of the signers of the United States Constitution were Freemasons including George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. Of the 74 men who were commissioned generals in the Continental Army 33 or 46% were Freemasons. (Source: Bessel.org) What is my point? I am proud of this heritage of significant contributions to our society. I am proud that we have a tradition of being able to disagree without becoming disagreeable. I am saddened by the seemingly loss of civility in our political system. I have been involved in the political discourse. I have been involved in politics in the past and will likely become so in the future when my cable tow permits. I urge us all to become involved in the political process to the extent our cable tow permits. On another note, I urge us all to support the Child I.D. Program and the other charitable ideas and endeavors with the Lodge. We need to do more of charitable activities. We need to be in the community more. Trestle Board: 2016 A HOME IN THE DESERT The History of St. George Masonic Lodge #3 3 Chapter Seven - Racing to the Finish with true Masonic Spirit Submitted by M. W. Dean D. Rein With a comfortable amount of working capital in place, construction resumed at a swift pace. Worshipful Brother Arthur Kriss took the lead on virtually every aspect of the remaining work to be accomplished. He donated numerous hours of his personal time to coordinate the efforts of contractors in a logical succession of events in order for the Lodge to obtain its Certificate of Occupancy. Brother Neil Fisher took over the helm as General Contractor and established a wonderful working relationship with Arthur. The focus at this point was on the main floor, as it was unnecessary for the lower level to be completed to obtain the Certificate of Occupancy. Wiring for the sound and alarm systems as well as the smoke detectors were quickly finished, followed by insulating the main floor and hanging the drywall. Next colors were selected for the paint, carpet and tile. Worshipful Brother Kriss took the initiative and made excellent choices in all categories, especially with the black and white ceramic tile for the foyer entrance and the center of the Lodge room. As Masons know, the ground floor of King Solomon's Temple was checkered with black and white tile. With the color selection finalized, the tile and carpet were laid, followed by painting. The downstairs served as a staging area to clean and renovate the sideliner's theater chairs. Several Brethren contributed many hours of their time and labor to make the chairs new again; namely Worshipful Brothers Arthur Kriss, Mike Olson, Jim Summers, Ray Dewey, Joe Lambert Brother David Brown and Neil Fisher. Not surprising, these same Brothers were an invaluable resource in many other areas of Lodge construction, including cleanup, running wire and swinging a hammer. The chairs were then hauled up to the main floor and installed, complete with donation plaques affixed to the chair arm rests. The main level was virtually complete in a few short months with the exception of some minor details such as installing the Tyler s and Secretary s desks and foyer furniture. These items were quickly checked off the list and attention was now directed to the parking lot, curb, gutter and landscaping. A bid was awarded in the amount of $96,000. to a contractor to complete all of the remaining exterior work Once again they were facing the challenge of raising the funds to complete the project. Next month we will describe the challenges which led to the glorious Dedication and Consecration of the St. George Masonic Temple on September 24, 2011.
