The Exaltation of the Precious Cross. Sources: http://www.saintjonah.org/lit/ http://azbyka.ru/days/ http://posledovanie.ru/posledovaniya/posledovaniya- 2018/ http://www.patriarchia.ru/bu/2018-09-27/ Before Vespers, the priest (wearing his phelonion) approaches the Table of Oblation, where the precious Cross, decorated with various flowers and lying on a tray that is covered with an Aer, has been prepared. The Royal Doors and the curtain are closed. Priest: Blessed is our God. Deacon or Reader (in the altar): Trisagion Prayers. During this, the priest censes the precious Cross and then gives up the censer. Priest: For Thine is the Kingdom. Then are sung the troparion of the Cross, G/N and the Kontakion. During the singing, the priest makes a prostration, then places the tray with the Cross (covered by the Aer) on his head and carries it to the Holy Table, preceded by two candle-bearers. The priest puts the Cross on the Holy Table in the place of the Gospel Book, which has previously been set upright at the back of the Holy Table. The priest censes three times around the Holy Table. Then the curtain and the Royal Doors are opened and the vigil begins. П 2018. Четверг. ы к к к к. П ы, к ю, к ы к ц, к ш к ы ц. П, к к, к к к. Д к : «Б, ык». И : «Б Б ш...». Т. Thou didst not permit the murderous bitterness of the tree still to remain, O Lord, for thou didst utterly destroy it by the Cross. Wherefore, by a tree Thou didst once sweeten the bitterness of the waters of Marah, prefiguring the activity of the Cross, which all the hosts of heaven magnify. Refrain: Magnify, O my soul, the exaltation of the life-creating Cross of the Lord! Those who are continually sunk in the darkness of our forefather, Thou hast raised up by the Cross today, O Lord; for though our nature was brought low through deceit and great lack of restraint, the light of Thy Cross hath again guided all of us aright, which we, the faithful, magnify. Refrain: Magnify, O my soul, the exaltation of the life-creating Cross of the Lord! That Thou mightest show forth to the world the image of the Cross venerated among all, O Lord, Thou didst trace its outline in the heavens, in that it is all-glorious, radiant with boundless light: the invincible weapon for the emperor. Wherefore, all the hosts of heaven magnify Thee. Refrain: Magnify, O my soul, the all-honored Cross of the Lord! Exaltation Katavasia, Tone 8: O Theotokos, thou art a mystical Paradise, / who untilled hast brought forth Christ. / He hath planted upon the earth the life-giving Tree of the Cross: / therefore at its exaltation on this day, // we worship Him and thee do we magnify.
