Permanent Dues Card from the Office of the Secretary There have been a number of calls to the Office of the Secretary regarding 2018 dues cards. Please be advised, when you paid your 2017 dues you received a plastic (credit card type) dues card which is your Permanent Dues Card. The Grand Lodge transitioned from the yearly paper dues card. This not only saves the Grand Lodge annual printing costs but also reduces mailing cost for Scioto Lodge #6 not having to send out dues cards. Scioto Lodge #6 still sends recognition notes to those Brethren supporting the various Masonic Charities. Page 4 SHOES for VETS by William Bennett Veterans' Administration Hospital Representative Hello, my name is William Bennett, I'm a United States Marine Corps veteran, I currently serve as the Seventh Masonic District VA Representative by appointment and under the authority of the Masonic Service Association. I'm writing this to introduce you, the reader, to an urgent need for both on campus and off campus veterans being served by the Veteran Administration facility in, Ohio. Ms. Jamie Russell, a staff member of Volunteer Service, briefed Right Worshipful Brother R. Joseph Shilling, District Advisor and me, about the need for shoes for veterans. As a result of this conversation I introduced a "Shoes for Vets" appeal throughout the Seventh Masonic District. My approach was to enlist the assistance of the sixteen lodges in the district and the Brethren who are members of those lodges. This is being done by announcing the Shoes for Vets program at all of the annual district inspections. The response has had immediate and very generous on the part of the Masonic Brethren.. Support can take the form of individual financial contributions, the donation of new shoes to the individual lodges, or supporting special projects hosted by lodges to support this effort. These funds would then be used to purchase tennis shoes, boots and dress shoes in sizes 10, 11 and 12 which would be placed in stores department located in the basement of building 9 on the campus of the VA in. Veterans are able to come to this location and get shoes at no cost to them at least twice a year. Financial support by Brethren should be made to the Secretary of your Lodge, the contributed funds would then be channeled to the Seventh Masonic District Association's Secretary-Treasurer for distribution. If you would like to participate in this effort please contact me at the Office of the Secretary (740-774-3485) or make contributions by check or money order payable to your lodge. Put "Shoes for VETS" in the memo line. Send the contribution to Scioto Lodge #6 Office of the Secretary 57 East Main Street. Fraternity William Bennett VA REPRESENTATIVE The Grand Lodge has again instituted an Amnesty Program which grants the privileges of Good Standing in the Lodge for those Brethren suspended for Non-Payment of Dues. The Grand Lodge will be sending letters to these members inviting them to reinstate with the payment of a fee of $100.00. If you know of a Brother who has been suspended under these provisions you may contact him and inform him of the Grand Lodge of Ohio program. This will reinforce the Grand Lodge s program by spreading this information, Scioto Lodge #6 routinely drops all suspensions of this type from our data bases, consequently said former members do not get The Trestle Board.

Traveling Pocket Inserts Pocket insert badges are available to any Brother requesting one. While they are referred to as Traveling Badges which identifies the Brother by name and the Lodge to which he belongs (Specifically Scioto Lodge #6 and are used by each Brother who travels to any of the sixteen Lodges in the Seventh Masonic District during the Inspection season. These badges are also convenient for wearing to stated meetings at our Lodge. It is not unusual to recognize a person but names can escape us. This badge will alleviate that problem. To get a identification badge contact the Office of the Secretary and your name will be added to the next order. There is no charge for the badge, you will however be required to pick up your badge at the office, they will not be mailed. SAMPLE ID BADGE Page 5 Service Award Pins and Certificates Twenty-five, thirty-five and forty year service pins are purchased by the Lodge on a limited basis. They are awarded at any stated meeting of Scioto Lodge #6 (with prior notification) but not mailed to the individual unless they provide $2.50 for postage and handling. They may be picked up at the office during business hours which are typically 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. You may make an appointment to pick up your pin. NOTE: Brother Kyle W. Henderson will be looking for a lot of manpower on the Chicken Noodle Dinner on prep day April 4th and again on April 5th for the dinner. Brethren are asked to provide desserts for sale during the dinner. Brother Neil Smith and his Lady Debbie have been most generous with their time and labor to handle the dessert table sales. This event also encourages good fellowship with other Brethren and the many guests who come to this event. Please remember our Masonic Widows who may not be able to come to the Ross County Shrine Club. Consider buying them a dinner and delivering it to them. They truly appreciate this gesture from the Brethren. Wardens and Deacons Class Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Masonic Temple beginning at 8:00 am. Coffee and donuts will be served prior to the opening which begins as soon as possible. It will be held in the third floor dining room. The sessions will be conducted by Worshipful Brother Mark Allman and Worshipful Brother Aaron Buckler, District Education Officers. All participants should register upon arrival.

Page 6 Report on Tax Exemptions Obtained on Temple Thomas R. Castor, Secretary-Treasurer Masonic Temple Association submitted information to the association with the following report: We have received our determination of the exemption of part of the Masonic Temple from Real Estate Property Tax according to a new Ohio Law which provides for an exemption on property of a fraternal organization used primarily for meetings and other social functions and not for commercial purposes. The determination was made last August after an application was submitted. Both Worshipful Brothers Stephen J. Steele and Michael L. Hines give a great deal of credit to the Grand Lodge of Ohio in general and to Chad Simpson in particular for helping Scioto Lodge #6 make the application in a successful manner. Here are the figures: the state determined that the first and second floors of the Temple are used for commercial purposes and do not qualify for the exemption. But the third and fourth floors do. Therefore, our annual real estate taxes to the auditor of Ross County have been reduced from $4,774.57 to $1,365.58, or a whopping savings of $3,408.94 a year for the foreseeable future. Since the law is retroactive to 2013, we were given a total of $13,895.66 as a refund of taxes paid from 2013 to the present. They paid our real estate taxes for 2018 and gave us the remainder in a check for $12,530.08 which was deposited into our checking account January 19 th. I think you can see how help from the Grand Lodge has benefited us a great deal on this occasion. Also, the lodge owes a debt of gratitude to all the officers who participated in this effort. Page 7 Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus I ll try and be as brief as possible with this communication. I m writing to follow-up regarding the upcoming Valley of Columbus Reunion to be held on April 14, honoring Illustrious Brother Owen E. Johnson, 33. The Valley of Columbus has been hard at work on what we believe is an important project for Craft Lodges related to this event, and we want to be sure that you know about it. As a Past Master, one of the things that is most troubling is Brothers who, for one reason or another, find themselves suspended for non-payment of dues. While this may sometimes occur due to financial or other reasons, it is also true that Brothers sometimes just drift away from Lodge. Now for the good news. There is a growing body of data which shows that Brothers who remain active and engaged,, particularly through membership & Brotherhood events with Appendant Masonic bodies, are less likely to find themselves in this situation. We believe this can be especially true of recently raised Master Masons. Valley of Columbus leadership has recognized this idea, and are actively working to extend invitations to Brotherhood, as an effort to give more opportunities for Masonic involvement to more Brothers. We have discussed this project with Grand Lodge and hope that, if proven successful, it can be used as a model for involving and engaging Brothers in other Ohio Valleys and perhaps eventually even other States. As part of our outreach efforts, we are reaching out to all Master Masons, but especially two groups with special programming: 1. Those who have been raised in the past several years at Lodges within the Valley of Columbus 2. Officers of Craft Lodges within the Valley of Columbus region. Worshipful, if you could please take just a little time in what I know is your busy upcoming meeting schedules to let your Lodge know about the upcoming Scottish Rite Reunion, I would be deeply grateful. Perhaps you would also consider reaching out to your members in an effort to send at least one candidate to represent your Lodge at the Reunion. ESPECIALLY FOR LODGE OFFICERS AND PAST MASTERS: Any Blue Lodge Officer or Past Master will receive a 50% discount on their petition fees. This means for officers and Past Masters it's $50. The Valley of Columbus Office can provide full details by calling: 614-766-2272 or 800-344-9741. Or you can email: susan@valleyofcolumbus.com Thanks for your time Worshipful. I hope to see you at this Reunion. Very Fraternally Yours, Tim "TC" Adams, P.M. Membership Chairman Valley of Columbus AASR

Outdated materials are present throughout the structure. Over the last year the blueprints have been updated and engineering has been done to be able to begin the process of putting the project out for bid. This will bring our building up to modern code standards and ensure safe operation for many years to come. This project will be a major upgrade and is not anticipated to be a complete for about 2 years. The Lighter Side of Masonry A Mason who had just been installed as Worshipful Master of his Lodge and was duly attending all the functions he could was having a hard time with his wife who said All those Masters-in-office have to do is snap; their fingers and you would be there wouldn t you?...i wish I was a Master!!!! After do thought he said, So do I dear.we swap them for a new one every year. Two experienced Master Masons were enjoying a flight in a hot air balloon when suddenly a thick cloud formed between then and the ground. Being without instruments, after half and hour they realized they were well and truly lost. A short time later they came across a large hole in the clouds and spied a gentleman below walking his dog across the field. They had time to exchange pleasantries and found that he too was a member of the Craft. The guys in the balloon inquired of him as to their location and received the reply, About 200 fee up in a balloon. Just then the cloud closed the hole and they were alone again. One turned to the other and said, I bet he is the Secretary of his Lodge!! Why do you say that? the other asked. Well what has told us is absolutely true but in our present predicament is totally useless!!!
