What Are The Essential Characteristics of the Best Servant Leaders for BOTH Laity and Clergy? (based on Holy Scripture and the best practices empirical research)

Church Leaders The most basic task of the Church leader is to discern the spiritual gifts of all those under his authority, and to encourage those gifts to be used to the full for the benefit of all. Only a person who can discern the gifts of others and can humbly rejoice at the flowering of those gifts is fit to lead the Church. + Saint John Chrysostom

The Stewardship Calling Model of the Six Elements of Effective Servant Leadership Love Humility Trust Vision Team Courage

VISION TRUST LOVE TEAM HUMILITY

Be Loving A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13: 34-35

Be Humble Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Philippians 2:3-4

Be Trustworthy, Trusting and Instill Trust There are over 39 references to trust in the Book of Psalms alone Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Be Visionary Where there is no vision, the people will perish. Proverbs 29:18

Build and Lead Teams So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Romans 12:5

Be Courageous Watch, stand fast in the faith, be courageous; be strong. Let all you do be done with love. 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Be Courageous Matthew 21:12 Mark 11:15 Luke 19:45 John 2:15

Leaders of a Church will either be risk takers, caretakers or undertakers. Pastor Rick Warren

Summary Conclusions of Studies Ministry is a deeply meaningful and satisfying calling There is growing evidence that Clergy (and families) are at significant risk for mental and physical problems including trauma symptoms Laity have underappreciated the financial strain on Clergy and their families Clergy are not yet well equipped to manage their personal finances or their congregations finances Clergy desire significant additional education and training on parish administration, leadership and parish operational topics, in addition to pastoral skills, bereavement and mental health issues
