Family Faith Activities 6th Sunday of Ordinary Time Today s reading is part one of the Sermon of the Mount and deals with the Law. Children at this age consider the right course of action to be the one that allows them to avoid punishment. Jesus teaches us that obeying God s Law of love is to be done not just to avoid punishment but to show love to others. Ask your family to discuss what it means to follow the law. Read Matthew 5:17-37 and discuss: How do you think the disciples felt when Jesus told them they had to be better than the scribes and Pharisees? What did Jesus say about the commandment You shall not kill? What is the difference between following the law and living a life of love? Family Play Book- Making the Rules Activity: Families have rules. Without rules, family life would be chaos. Say: God s Law of love can be thought of as rules that we are to follow in order to show our love and respect for one another. As a family, brainstorm a list of rules that you are all called to follow in your home in order for you all to get along together. Include play time, eating, how to speak to one another, and so on. Emphasize that families follow rules as a way of showing love and respect for one another. Talk specifically with one another about how anger is to be dealt with in your family. Concluding Prayer of St. Francis: Lord, Make me an instrument of your peace; Where there is hatred, let me plant love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy. Grant that I may not so much seek to be comforted as to comfort; To be understood as to understand; To be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen What is this Social Justice talk all about? Pa Sills-Trausch, Director of Faith in Ac on Ministry will be presen ng this topic at our next Family Catechesis session. Don t miss out on this informa ve, interac ve and lively presenta on! Sunday Feb. 23rd Session one 9 am/session two 10:45 am Watch your email for student breakout designa ons. Parents will meet in the Guadalupe Room. Confirma on and First Communion News! Our students and families were invited to create their own prayer space at home. Check out the results! Check out more Family Altars on the bulle n board in the Lobby! Maybe you would like to create your own prayer center too! Find a space, add a prayer mat, bible, cross or any other sacramental objects or decora- ons that you choose.
