It s good to be back and there s a whole lot going on as we begin a new liturgical year with the Season of Advent. DIOCESE OF OGDENSBURG CAPITAL CAMPAIGN You will find booklets of daily meditations for Advent including some specifically for children and families near the church entrances today. Help yourself! You will also notice in your pews our new pew missals. Take a few moments before or after Mass to thumb through them and get familiar with their layout. For those who wish to follow along for the prayers after Mass, the Hail Holy Queen can be found at the bottom of page 532, and the Prayer to St. Michael is in the middle of page 534. The Giving Trees are now up in our churches. Changing circumstances have led us to make some changes in this annual project. With the help of Holiday Helpers and JCEO, St. André s Parish has adopted 18 families; tags for children on our trees represent actual kids in our community and their real Christmas requests. We are also gathering gifts for the 40 or so homebound parishioners to whom volunteers bring Holy Communion; we haven t made specific suggestions of gifts for them to allow you to be creative in bringing a little Christmas cheer to some of our senior and seriously ill members. I m sure you will be generous as you have been for so many years! With the start of the new liturgical year, we begin use of new copies of the Book of Intentions, in which you should feel free to write your prayer requests. We re moving the one at Notre Dame from its spot near the main doors of the church to a place near the statues of Our Lady and St. André, where so many of you already come to say a quiet prayer or light a candle (in case you re wondering where it went). A few things to get on your calendar: the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception a holy day of obligation is this Saturday, December 8; The Light is ON for You all-day confessions and adoration in preparation for Christmas is Tuesday, December 18; the schedule of Masses for Christmas, which is a little different than it s been the past few years. Thanks to all of you who responded to the Christmas Mass survey, which helped us set the new schedule. Please note that Notre Dame Church holds 550 people, and it would be unsafe (not to mention, pretty uncomfortable) for us to have more folks than that in there, even at Christmas. We all know the 4:00pm Mass will be packed so, if there s any flexibility in your family s schedule, please consider a different Mass time. I m so very encouraged by the progress we ve made on the Capital Campaign! To find out that we re already 74% of the way to our goal was sure great news to receive upon my return! (And due to the high-level response, not all gifts have been processed yet so our total is actually already higher than that.) Thank you, thank you, thank you! We anticipate a growing number of individuals and families looking for help this Christmas season and with increasing food costs, we are asking for your help. If you would like to make a donation towards the purchase of food items, the financial support would be greatly appreciated. We will be accepting applications for the Christmas baskets at St. André s Parish offices on Rennie Street on Monday, December 3 rd and Tuesday, December 4 th from 9-4PM.
