First is the social front where people of faith are challenged by persons and organizations that seek to suppress our right to actively practice, speak and demonstrate our faith publicly by encouraging and forcing us to accept ideas and practices that oppose those of our faith. Political correctness, redefining marriage, making us think we can not publicly celebrate or faith, the Affordable Health Care act, all things pro abortion, ridiculing our faith and humiliating us are the tactics we are challenged to stand up against. The next escalation, which is where the second front is being fought, is in the courts. The battle to legally prevent the erosion of our Religious Liberty as guaranteed by the 1st Amendment is being fought in the courts continuously. The third way, which can be escalated to quite quickly, is martyrdom. Loss of lives to preserve or freedom to worship, is happening in the Mid East, Africa and Europe. Where do we want to make our stand? The Youth Group (pictured) submitted two presentations, The Poem and The Make Over and St. Agnes Youth Group of Naples presentation Freedom Fighters that represented their interpretations of the erosion and fight for Religious freedom in a dramatic competition. Reflecting on Religious Freedom by DioceseofVenice July 14, 2017 4:57 pm Staff Report (Florida Catholic) For one evening the faithful gathered to reflect and learn about the realities of religious freedom at home and abroad. The Diocese of Venice sponsored a Fortnight for Freedom Prayer and Film Night, hosted by Bishop Frank J. Dewane, on July 28 at St. Leo the Great Parish in Bonita Springs. During the evening attendees more than 100, including a number of seminarians heard from Bishop Dewane who stressed the need to stay vigilant for any efforts, either locally or nationally, to attempt to strip away the freedom of religion we cherish in this nation. The challenge is to realize when religious freedom is under attack because it can often be in a subtle way; and before we know it, our freedoms are gone. The guest speaker, Ave Maria School of Law Associate Professor Tim Tracey, spoke about what religious freedom is and how it faces challenges every day, even though it is clearly called for in the U.S. Constitution. There was also a presentation of three selections from the first ever Diocese of Venice Film Festival, which encouraged youth groups to submit a video about religious freedom. In the videos, the youth groups from St. Raphael Parish in Lehigh Acres and St. Agnes Parish in Naples offered their unique perspective on religious freedom. The videos showed a deep understanding of the threats to religious freedom and the potential consequences if nothing is done to defend these freedoms before it is too late. One of the most poignant parts of the evening included a screening of the powerful documentary Our Last Stand. The film by Jordan Allott, follows the journey of an Assyrian-American school teacher from New York who spends her summer vacation traveling to Iraq and Syria to help raise awareness about the plight of the Christian communities (Assyrian/Chaldean/Syriac) threatened by civil war and ISIS. The (Our Last Stand) shows how easily we could lose our freedoms on short notice. The Fortnight for Freedom is educating Catholics across our country on the attacks on religious liberty here at home, said Dan Dougherty of Fort Myers. The Bonita Springs event coincided with the 2017 Fortnight for Freedom (June 24-July 4) during which the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops encourages the faithful to reinforce their commitment to prayer, to study the Church s teaching, and to participate in peaceful public action during the Fortnight in defense of Religious Freedom. The Fortnight was initially created to raise awareness in the United States following the HHS mandate which impacted Religious Freedom. The dates selected by the USCCB coincide with the feast days of St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher and conclude on July 4, the dates of the signing of the Declaration Independence which set forth many of the freedoms Americans enjoy to this day.

Remember our Fraternal Brothers Please remember or Fraternal Brothers who are struggling with illness and who have moved on to assisted living. Prayer, a card, visit or letter from their Fraternal Brothers can be a huge pick-me-up for them Let them know we remember them and appreciate how the contributed to our Council and Assembly. SK Charles Troeller is struggling with two forms of cancer. His address is 3 Heath Aster Ln., Lehigh Acres, FL 33936. SK Henry Weisser is in assisted living with full time caregivers. His address is 3801 East Crest Drive, Apartment 5202, Bryan, Texas 77802 SK Harold Walker is in room 101 at Heritage Park Rehabilitation located at 2826 Cleveland Ave, Fort Myers. His wife, Dorthy, said he is not doing well and hopes you will go by and pay a visit.

This meeting includes all District Deputies from around the State and that total is around 81 DD s. The meeting also includes State Officers, Regional Directors, and Committee Chair- Persons and their Staff. The State of Florida has a newly elected State Deputy, Donald T. Kahrer for the next two Fraternal Years. He replaces our Immediate Past Deputy Donnie Goolesby. The new State Deputy has appointed Rev. Salvatore Pignato as the State Chaplain. He is from the Orlando area and is a Priest in the Eastern Rite of the Catholic Church. St Raphael s Council has been approved by the State to host a Knighthood Degree on Saturday Sept. 30, 2017.
