December 2, 2018 Holy Trinity Parish First Sunday of Advent

HOLY TRINITY PARISH DECEMBER 2, 2018 LIGONIER, PA In your charity, please pray for the souls of Father Micah Kozoil who s passed on November 13, 2018. The soul of our parishioner, Joan Tressler who s passed on November 16, 2018. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Could you not watch one hour with me? ADVENT PENANCE SERVICE There will be confessions on Monday, December 17, beginning at 7:00 PM here at Holy Trinity Church. This is an excellent way to prepare for the great and happy solemnity of Christmas. Thrive Youth Ministry Eucharis c Adora on Every First Tuesday You may sign the schedule sheet for the first Tuesday located in the Narthex. Blessing of an Advent Wreath The use of the Advent Wreath is a traditional practice which has found its place in the Church as well as in the home. The blessing of an Advent Wreath takes place on the First Sunday of Advent or on the evening before the First Sunday of Advent. When the blessing of the Advent Wreath is celebrated in the home, it is appropriate that it be blessed by a parent or another member of the family. Advent, this powerful liturgical season that we are beginning, invites us to pause in silence to understand a presence. It is an invitation to understand that the individual events of the day are hints that God is giving us, signs of the attention he has for each one of us. ---Homily at First Vespers of Advent, November 28, 2009 Coordinator of Youth Ministry Tina Komarinski, 724-972-8322. tkomarinski@dioceseofgreensburg.org Come One, Come All: Get Ready for Christmas! Christmas Sing-Along Who: Families, individuals, guests What: 3rd Annual Christmas Sing-Along Where: Holy Trinity Atrium When: Sunday, December 16 (After 11:00 Mass) Our Holy Trinity choir will lead us in singing popular Christmas carols. Ringing the Bell for the Salvation Army at Giant Eagle Every year the local Churches take a turn ringing the bell for the Salvation Army at Ligonier Giant Eagle. This year, Holy Trinity has been assigned for Wednesday, December 19, from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Please take a half hour or an hour out of your busy schedule to volunteer to ring the bell. A sign up sheet is posted in the Narthex.

Could you help those less fortunate this Christmas We will be preparing Christmas Baskets for those less fortunate in our community on Sunday, December 16. Community Service will provide a basic Christmas dinner (Ham, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, vegetables). We are asking parishioners to bring non-perishable food items to help fill these baskets. Many of the food assistance programs are struggling so we thought it would be nice to provide these families with some additional groceries to help them through the holiday. Some suggestions: soup, applesauce, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, fruit, spaghetti sauce & pasta, cookies, candy, snack items (crackers, chips, pretzels, etc.), macaroni & cheese, pancake mix & syrup, cake mix & frosting, brownie mix, etc. Please help us make bountiful baskets by bringing your non-perishable food to the school gym by 11 AM on Sunday, December 16. Also, to ensure the safety of our recipients, please make sure that the expiration dates on your food items are current. Please help make Christmas a true blessing again this year for those less fortunate. CHRISTMAS TREE OF COZY COMFORT Holy Trinity Parish will be assisting our Bethlen Communities partners in helping those elderly in need by providing a basket in the Narthex of the church to collect new or gently used (clean) hats, gloves and scarves. The items that are placed in the basket by parishioners will be to add to the donated items on the Christmas Tree of Cozy Comfort in the Bethlen Offices here on the Holy Trinity Campus and then be distributed to seniors in need. Since the Home Health and Hospice Offices are only open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday thru Friday, and the majority of our parishioners are here on weekends and in the evenings, the parish wanted to help you help those senior citizens who may not be able to purchase a warm hat or covering for their neck or hands this winter. Please help us provide some cozy comfort by putting your donated items in the basket when you attend church during the weekends prior to Christmas. Holy Trinity Church 2019 calendars now are available in the Narthex. The quantity is limited - so please take only one calendar per family. Creighton Model FertilityCare System Come learn the authentic language of a woman's health and fertility! Applicable from early adolescence to premenopause, single ladies, engaged and married couples welcome. Creighton is a reliable method to achieve or avoid pregnancy, even for those with irregular cycles. It also offers new hope to couples experiencing infertility and miscarriage. Group Introductory sessions will be held in the parish library on Wednesday evenings beginning at 7:00 PM. Space is limited. Contact Michelle Parrish to register by calling 314-952-7471 or email mparrish001@gmail.com. See website www.ligoniercreighton.com for detailed information. OPLATKI (CHRISTMAS WAFER) The Christmas wafer commemorates the most unique family celebration in Christendom perpetuated with the full blessing of the Church - for those who observe this tradition. Oplatki are available for sale in the Church Narthex. The cost is $3.00. Children's Liturgy of the Word Advent 2018 Children's Liturgy of the Word, where Sunday readings are geared especially for children, will be offered at the every Sunday in Advent. No preregistration is required. All children ages 4-11 are encouraged to attend. Just before the Liturgy of the Word begins for the assembly, children are invited to go with weekly leaders from the church to the Parish Library. During this special time, the volunteer teacher leads the children through prayers, songs and readings that are simplified for children. The children will also be invited to participate in the Offertory by carrying the gifts to the altar with their teachers. Afterwards, they will return to their families. Parents, if you wish, may accompany your child. The Sundays of Advent include: December 2, 9, 16, and 23. Holy Trinity Parish 342 W.
