Mission Statement: St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a Christ-centered family of believers, celebrating Christ alive in our lives through the inspiration of the Gospel, church teachings and traditions and the Sacraments. We are sensitive to the spiritual and temporal needs of God s people, acknowledging their uniqueness and dignity and are dedicated to reaching out and serving them through prayer, liturgical celebrations and social ministries. Guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Holy Eucharist, we welcome all people with, respect and compassion. We are vigilant in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable. In the tradition of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, we put the good news of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ into action. December 2, 2018 4 Pastor s Desk A very special thanks to all the men and women of our local St. Vincent de Paul Conference. This is surely their busy season. For Thanksgiving, they distributed over 150 turkey dinners to local needy people, this, in addition to their day in and day out assistance to the poor. St. Vincent de Paul himself was devoted to the poor and needy and also the proper education of priests. His order founded seminaries and as a matter of fact educated many priests for the diocese of Brooklyn and Rockville Centre before the Immaculate Conception Seminary was built in the 1930 s. We pray that all Vincentians persevere in this good work! Time, Talent & Treasure Fostering Stewardship as a way of life Thanks for Giving First Fruits & Taking a Step!!! (Regular Sunday Offertory) November 11th s weekly offering: $7,502.00 November 18th s weekly offering: $7,950.00 Last year s weekly offering: $9,108.50 Bulletin Reflection Be on guard, Jesus warns in today s gospel, lest your spirits become bloated with indulgence. Let us heed His warning and follow the advice of St. Paul, conducting ourselves in a way pleasing to God, overflowing with love for one another. Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who embrace Stewardship by recognizing God as the origin of life, the giver of freedom, the source of all they have and all they are. December 2-First Sunday of Advent: As we begin Advent we are called to wait in joyful anticipation for the grace of Christmas to once again bless our lives. Wherever you live in our parish, there are poor families within walking distance of your home. When in need, they ring the rectory bell. They are, in effect, ringing your doorbell. Your gift in the St. Vincent de Paul poor box will help the poor celebrate the grace of God s love this Christmas. SUNDAY READINGS for next week, December 9th: Baruch 5:1 9 Jerusalem, take off your robe of mourning and misery; put on forever the splendor of glory from God. Philippians 1:4 6, 8 11 And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more in knowledge and every kind of percep on. Luke 3:1 6 [The prophet Isaiah wrote,] Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. Send us your email if you would like to start receiving Bringing Home the Word, a weekly message based on the Sunday Scripture readings.

Here's how it works: Encourage your child to do one good deed in honor of baby Jesus each day! Write down those small acts of kindness and bring them to "Little People Liturgy" at the 10 am Sunday Mass. (Little ones process to the basement). For each deed your child completes, she/he will be given a piece of straw to place in Jesus' cradle in the manger. As the cradle is filled with hay, it will warm baby Jesus... and your hearts! What a wonderful way to ready our hearts for Jesus this season! St. Francis Seniors will be meeting here at St. Francis the first Monday of each month from 11:30am 1:00pm in the Lower Church. Our next meeting is Monday, December 3rd Tuesday evening December 11th Rosary @6pm followed by Mass @ 7pm and celebrating the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe for the rest of the night.
