A NNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE W EEK OF D ECEMBER 2, 2018 ***WITHIN OUR PRAYERS*** The flowers in the Sanctuary this morning are given to the glory of God in loving memory of Lorraine s parents, David and Zakia Sayer, her brothers Alex and David, and her sister Marlene by Fauzy and Lorraine Ghareeb. Our loving sympathy and prayers are extended to John Baxley and family on the death of his father, Henry Baxley, who died in Marshall, VA on November 26. A funeral service is being held today. Help carry one another s burden, and in this way you will obey the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2 ALL NAMES ON THE PRAYER LIST HAVE BEEN REMOVED FOR PRIVACY REASONS. THE PRINTED ANNOUNCEMENTS INCLUDED IN THE BULLETIN ON SUNDAY MORNINGS CONTAINS THE COMPLETE LIST. The weekly prayer list includes those members and friends of the church family who are in a short-term temporarily serious or critical situation. Please remember in your prayers all those listed. Names placed on the weekly list will be removed after six weeks unless the church office is requested otherwise. We need your help to keep our prayer lists accurate and current. Please refer to the website, www.lewinsville.org, for further information on activities. SHARE MONTHLY FOOD CONTRIBUTIONS Remember to bring your canned and dry food donations to the Narthex TODAY. We deliver the contributions to SHARE. SHARE serves people in our area and there is a great need for non-perishable foods. Please no open or out-of-date products. DEACONS FUND - Following worship TODAY, the Deacons will receive contributions for the Deacons Fund in the Narthex as you leave the Sanctuary. The Deacons Fund is used to provide short-term assistance to those in our community who have emergency needs. EXTENDED SERVING OF THE COMMUNION OF THE CHURCH - TODAY our Elders and Deacons will bring communion to those who are unable to be with us in worship. This is an extension of the blessing and fellowship of the Lord s Table. If you know of someone who would like to receive communion, contact Pastor Stephany or speak with a member of the Extended Serving of Communion Task Force: Connie Church, Lois Dokken, Claire Grossi, Doug McGuire, Mary Ann Philipp, Betty Yurkewitch. 10

TAIZÉ CONTEMPLATIVE WORSHIP TONIGHTat 7:00pm in the Chapel - We will worship with prayers, singing and silence. An excellent way to begin the week. THE BEAUTIFUL 12-FOOT FRASER FIR TREE in the Narthex was generously donated by Sexton Christmas Trees. We hope you will thank them personally, if you are purchasing a tree from them in the Great Falls Village Center behind the Post Office. For their hours of operation and contact information: https://m.facebook.com/sextonchristmastrees/. 11

THE NEWSLETTER DEADLINE - is December 9 for the January newsletter. Please plan to get your material to Sandy Albrecht, salbrecht@lewinsville.org by Monday, December 10, so it can be included in the newsletter. ALTERNATIVE GIFTS OPPORTUNITY- As we celebrate the birth of God s greatest gift to us, the Mission and Service Ministry Group invites you to participate in the annual Alternative Gifts program. This is an opportunity to give a gift that honors someone and, at the same time, supports one or more LPC mission projects. Look for additional information at the Alternative Gifts table in St. Andrews Hall after each Sunday worship service during Advent. An Alternative Gift is a wonderful and easy way to honor loved ones, friends, teachers, neighbors, service providers, and others on your Christmas gift list and simultaneously provide a tax-deductible gift to support one or more Lewinsville mission projects. Make a list of the people you wish to honor in this meaningful way, identify the organization(s) you wish to support with your charitable contribution, obtain one of the beautiful Alternative Gift cards for each person you are honoring, and write one check (payable to Lewinsville Presbyterian Church) for your selections. 12

The Mission and Service Ministry Group is highlighting the following organizations for your special support: Friends of the Lewinsville (meal subsidy program), Homestretch, United Orphanage and Academy (Moi s Bridge, Kenya), Falls Church Homeless Shelter, Second Story, and S.H.A.R.E. You may also support any of the other organizations/projects listed in the LPC Mission Handbook. To learn more about these organizations and reference the Mission Handbook, visit the Alternative Gifts table in St. Andrews Hall each Sunday during Advent. SAVE THE DATE, SUNDAY, DECEMBER 9 Bring your checkbooks, credit cards, and cash to church on Sunday, December 9, because our annual Fair Trade Sale is that day, between worship services and after the second service. This year, after a hiatus of several years, Ten Thousand Villages will again be our vendor. This is an all-fair-trade store in Alexandria with beautiful, affordable products crafted by artisans from around the world. Come prepared to shop for stocking stuffers, even larger Chritmas gifts or treats for yourself! The sale each year is sponsored by the Mission and Service Ministry Group. SINGLE SENIORS - are warmly invited to our next monthly fellowship lunch in the Chapel Friday, December 14 at 11:30 am. Our program will focus on Christmas music, including singing carols led by our Director of Music John Nothaft, with help from one of our own, Jim Scopeletis. Bring $5 for a simple lunch. For further information and to RSVP, contact Lois Dokken (manpadokken@aol.com / 703 789-0617) or Wendy Maiwurm (wmaiwurm@gmail.com / 703 759-6705). PARENT S DAY OUT IS BACK! - On December 15 from 9am-12pm, the LPC Youth Ministry is sponsoring Parent s Day Out, an intergenerational event where children from the community can spend time with LPC youth while their parents prepare for the holidays. We will spend time watching Christmas movies, making crafts, decorating Christmas cookies, and playing games. If you know a child or parent interested in attending this event, they can sign up on the Church website or contact Rev. Annamarie Groenenboom. We can t wait for this merry event! FAIRFAX INTERFAITH COALITION FOR HABITAT - The next workday for the Fairfax Inter-faith Coalition for Habitat (FICH) with Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia will be Saturday, December 15, 8:45-3:00. We will be rehabbing an existing single family home in the Alexandria portion of Fairfax County. Volunteers supply their own lunch and Habitat supplies water and tools. To join volunteers from other local congregations contact Mary Frase, the Lewinsville representative to FICH, at maryjfrase@gmail.com or (703) 536-4091.
