We were finally able to schedule and conduct the officer installation on Sunday the 2 nd, immediately following the 11am Mass. The Installation was conducted by District 21 Deputy Chris David and District 21 Warden Robert Garcia. On the 8 th, the Council said thank-you to our Parish Community by hosting a free picnic. This picnic was the Council s way of saying Thank-You to all who have supported us through the years and continues to do so. At the end of the month, at the request of Father Dominguez, the Council with assistance from other ministries, hosted BINGO for the church. The BINGO was a success and BINGO will continue once a quarter as a Church fundraiser. Different ministries will host the BINGO, however as Knights, we will do our best to support the various ministries and the church with this fundraiser. (We were all so busy at BINGO, we failed to get pictures) In October the Council will have a Green Chile Stew Fundraiser after all Masses on the 13 th & 14 th. The St Charles School Halloween Carnival will be held on Friday the 26 th, and School officials have asked Council Knights to assist. Some Knights have already committed to assist at this event, however we still need more. If you can help at this event please advise the Grand Knight. Remember, Charity is using our gifts from God to help others. Jesus Is with You How often does Love have to ask us: Why do you look for the living among the dead? Our daily problems and worries can wrap us up in ourselves, in sadness and bitterness and that is where death is. That is not the place to look for the One who is alive! Let the risen Jesus enter your life. Welcome him as a friend, with trust: he is life! If up till now you have kept him at a distance, step forward. He will receive you with open arms. If you have been indifferent, take a risk: you won t be disappointed. If following him seems difficult, don t be afraid. Trust him, be confident that he is close to you. He is with you, and he will give you the peace you are looking for and the strength to live as he would have you do. from the book Believe in Love: Inspiring Words from Pope Francis Your humble servant & brother in Christ, Gary D Trujillo, Grand Knight We need not let ourselves think that we cannot do something useful or that we never will be able to accomplish a useful task. The fact is that we can do anything in the field of human relationships, if we are willing to call on God s supply of strength. The supply may not be immediately available, because we may not be entirely ready to receive it, but it will surely come when we are properly prepared for it. As we grow spiritually, a feeling of being plentifully supplied by God s strength will possess us and we will be able to accomplish many useful things. ~ Father Pat Umberger "Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love." MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY The Catholic Church designates October as the Month of the Holy Rosary. During this month the faithful venerate the Blessed Virgin Mary especially under her title of Our Lady of the Rosary, and make special effort to honor the Holy Rosary with group recitations and rosary processions. St. Dominic de Guzman, the founder of the Order of Preachers, is the saint to whom Our Lady famously appeared and gave the prayers of the Holy Rosary to assist him as a spiritual weapon in combating heresy and leading souls back to the one, true Catholic faith. Pray the Rosary for Peace because Mary asked us to MONTHLY CHALLENGE FROM THE SUPREME CHAPLAIN An exciting initiative called Monthly Challenge from the Supreme Chaplain began July 2, 2018. Check out this month s challenge below. A new challenge for each month will be shared on the Knights of Columbus social media pages, as well as in Knightline and Columbia magazines. It is also available in multiple languages at www.kofc.org. [The blind man] threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him in reply, What do you want me to do for you? The blind man replied to him, Master, I want to see. Jesus told him, Go your way; your faith has saved you. (Gospel for Oct. 28, Mk. 10:50-52) Most of us can probably recall requesting a meeting with someone influential, and then reaching a point in that meeting where he or she looked us in the eyes and asked, So, what can I do for you? We most likely prepared for this moment, and we clearly stated our need or wish. Brothers, can we imagine the Son of God speaking our own name and asking, What do you want me to do for you? It seems extraordinary. Even unbelievable! And yet, this is exactly what Jesus invites us to do every day in prayer, reading and reflecting on Scripture, speaking to him about what is in our hearts. That s a meeting you and I would not want to miss. October 2018 Challenge by Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William E. Lori: When having a discussions with people this month (especially your family members), give them your undivided attention and do not look at your cell phones during the conversations. Secondly I challenge you to honestly attempt to answer Jesus question to you, What do you want me to do for you? Engage in the challenge and put your faith into action today! Vivat Jesus! ABUSE AWARENESS INFORMATION The Archdiocese of Santa Fe recently changed policy regarding the abuse awareness training for the protection of children. First, ALL volunteers MUST complete the training, whether you are in a Mass ministry or volunteer in any capacity in any parish. Second, the training must be renewed every FIVE years. The training can now be completed either at a class or individually ONLINE. And, it is completely FREE! For details, please pick up a copy of the flyer from the table in the St Charles Borromeo lobby, or visit the Archdiocese of Santa Fe s website @ http://www.archdiocesesantafe.org/ Please note: since Knights volunteer at church activities, all Knights are required to be in compliance with the Abuse Awareness Training. Once you have completed the training, please provide a copy of your training certificate to the Council Advocate. Newsletter Submissions: Please submit anything of interest (articles, anniversaries, events, obituaries, service projects, etc) to the Grand Knight (rdo1381@aol.com) by the 5 th of each month for inclusion in the newsletter. "When you pray, you only have to ask for two things: You should ask for the light to see the will of God, and you have to ask for the courage to be able to do the will of God." Venerable Msgr. With Your help, I haven t been impatient, lost my temper, been grumpy, judgmental, or envious of anyone. But I will be getting out of bed in a minute, and I think I will need Your help then. Amen A young man was graduating from college. He had been admiring a sports car, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. Just before his graduation, his father told him how proud he was of his son, and how much he loved him. Then he handed him a box. Curious but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened it and found a handsome, leather-bound Bible, with the young man s name embossed in gold.. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, Thanks a lot! then he stormed out of the house, leaving the gift behind. Many years passed before the young man received news that his father has passed away and had willed all of his possession to his him. He was searching through his father s papers when he found the Bible, just as he had left it years ago. He turned the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse. If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly father give good things to those who ask him. ~ Matthew 7:11 He then noticed a lump in the back of the Bible. It was the keys to the sports car he had coveted, still tagged with the date of his graduation, and the words. Paid in Full. How many times do we miss God s blessings because they are not packaged as we expect?
