PARISH NEWS THE GOOD SHEPHERD The Good Shepherd not only knows us but has given his life for us. We belong to the Shepherd. His life is the source of our life. One part of this relationship is firm God s part. The Father has entrusted us to the Son, and the Son will not let go of our hand. The other part of this relationship depends on us, of course. In today s Gospel, Jesus assumes our openhearted good will. My sheep hear my voice... and they follow me. This hearing and following is a daily undertaking that implies responsibility. Take Paul and Barnabas, for example. They moved ever closer to the reality that salvation was also meant for those members of the flock who did not yet know God s saving power. The Gentiles were the sheep known by the Shepherd. Paul could finally see that now was the acceptable time for them to know the Shepherd. Now the circle could be completed. Finally, those who were known and loved by the God of Jesus could know and follow the God of Jesus. There will never be a last chapter to this story of salvation. CONGRATULATIONS! With gratitude to Our Lord, we are pleased to make the following announcement: We congratulate Richard J. Caruso of our parish who has been called by his Bishop, the Most Reverend David A. Zubik, D.D., to the Order of Diaconate to be conferred at an ordination ceremony to be held on Saturday, June 15 at St. Paul Cathedral, Pittsburgh. GOLF OUTING SEEKING DONATIONS The golf committee is seeking donations for raffle baskets and silent auction items for the May 20th event. Donations may be placed in the Donation Center with a note attached or contact the office (ext. 10). LOOKING FOR PRAYER PARTNERS We have a full Marriage Prep session scheduled for April 27 at SJN. Plans are in place - NOW we need prayers, lots of prayers for this day to go according to God's plan and purpose. Would you be willing to write a note and offer your prayer support for one of these couples preparing for matrimony? We are looking for lots of letters so help us out- write your note and drop it in the collection basket or at the Rel Ed office. Then remember these special couples in your daily prayer. DID YOU KNOW...HELP YOURSELF Next to the Bible in the narthex, you can find some wonderful reading resources for children. These weekly reflection sheets help our Scripture readings come alive for us. Use them here or take them home or send them to your grandkids. CENSUS UPDATE We have begun work on updating our census files. Over a period of the next six months, you will be receiving a letter asking you to update the information we currently show on file. We appreciate your prompt response - please feel free to drop off your corrected census sheet in the collection basket during Mass, or return to us via mail. If you have any questions, please call the parish office (ext. 10). FIRST COMMUNION NEXT WEEK... During this Easter season we prepare to welcome many children to the Table of the Lord. First Communion will be celebrated on April 28 at both 9:30 and 11:30 Mass and again on May 4 at 5:30 and May 5 at 11:30 Mass. Please hold these young people in prayer these final days of preparation. Mandatory practice for the April 28 group will be on Friday, April 26. Please call the Rel Ed office if you are unsure of your scheduled time or date.
