OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) From the Pastor : Hunger and thirst are as certain as death and taxes. These appetites or needs of our physical bodies are images of the holy longing of the human heart. This week, the readings use hunger and the feeding of the multitudes as a way of stirring us to confidence in the God who alone can satisfy our deepest desires. After being more than full (like after a Thanksgiving meal), I am always amazed at how quickly my earth-bound body starts craving again. My spiritual hunger also returns quickly as I head out into the busy, stressful world. I often feel like a child in pure white clothes out on the farm. The need for washing comes often. In a similar way, we return again and again to the table of the Lord. This weekend will be the first of various weeks that are based on the 6 th chapter of John s Gospel. It is also known as the Bread of Life passage. It would be a good time to do a little reading on the Eucharist or to come to a daily Mass once a week, or, perhaps, even fast enough to really notice the hunger that reminds us of our need for God.
