When I was growing up, my parents told me about Elvis Presley, the King of Rock 'n' Roll. He received that title from fans due to the huge effect he had on rock music. When I was a teenager, people called Michael Jackson the King of Pop. The designation was based on the fact that he had so many hits for so many years and because of his power as a live performer. The title of king carries with it a lot of weight and communicates to people that the one bearing the title is at the pinnacle of something, some people, or some reality. I sometimes even like to say that I am King of the House, but my wife can easily remind me that a true king would have servants and would not have to take out the trash by themselves. Touché! There are many kings of many things, but only one King of the Universe. If you were the king of a kingdom, all would be your subjects. In the universe, all creation bows down to this king. No other king stands above him. All belongs to Him, although much is given to each of us as gift. He gives out of love and our love for Him should cause us to use those gifts for His glory, for we are more than simple subjects. We are sons and daughters of the King. We are royalty due to the mark of Baptism. Elvis and Michael are gone. Monarchs from different eras and places have vanished. However, our King is alive and well, calling us to have full membership in His Kingdom. His name is Jesus. His Kingdom is at hand. --Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS Readings for the week of November 25, 2018 Sunday: Dn 7:13-14/Ps 93:1, 1-2, 5 [1a]/ Rv 1:5-8/Jn 18:33b-37 Monday: Rv 14:1-3, 4b-5/ Ps 24:1bc-2, 3-4ab, 5-6 [cf. 6]/Lk 21:1-4 Tuesday: Rv 14:14-19/Ps 96:10, 11-12, 13 [13b]/ Lk 21:5-11 Wednesday: Rv 15:1-4/ Ps 98:1, 2-3ab, 7-8, 9 [Rv 15:3b]/ Lk 21:12-19 Thursday: Rv 18:1-2, 21-23; 19:1-3, 9a/ Ps 100:1b-2, 3, 4, 5 [Rv 19:9a]/ Lk 21:20-28 Friday: Rom 10:9-18/ Ps 19:8, 9, 10, 11 [10 or Jn 6:63]/ Mt 4:18-22 Saturday: Rv 22:1-7/ Ps 95:1-2, 3-5, 6-7ab [1 Cor 16:22b; cf Rv 22:20c]/Lk 21:34-36 Next Sunday: Jer 33:14-16/ Ps 25:4-5, 8-9, 10, 14 [1b]/ 1 Thes 3:12--4:2/Lk 21:25-28, 34-36 Observances for the week of November 25, 2018 Sunday: Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Friday: St. Andrew, Apostle Next Sunday: 1st Sunday of Advent MASS INTENTIONS Monday, November 26, 2018 8:00A.M. Vigil Masses/ Misa de vigilia Friday, December 7th Viernes 7 de diciembre 5:30PM English/ Ingles 7:30PM Spanish/ Español Holy Day Saturday, December 8th Sábado 8 de diciembre 8:00AM English/ Ingles 12:00PM Spanish/ Español This year the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, a Holy Day of Obligation, falls on Saturday, December 8 th. This may be confusing to some as we have seen in past years some Holy Days of Obligation which fell on Saturdays or Mondays were abrogated. This is not the case due to the great importance of this solemn feast day. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception holds special importance within the United States as she is our National Patroness. Therefore, to fulfill your obligation this year, please plan on attending either one of the vigil masses on Friday, December 7 th or one of the morning masses on Saturday, December 8 th. Then, you will have to fulfill your Sunday obligation as normal by going to the regularly scheduled Saturday Vigil Mass or any one of the regularly scheduled Sunday Masses. Habrá Rosario, La Historia de la Natividad de Jesús y Cantos Navideños. Presentado por los niños y jóvenes de nuestra Parroquia. Domingo 16 de diciembre de 2018 a las 6:30PM Ven con toda tu Familia! OZANAM MANOR Ozanam Manor is extremely grateful to have been chosen as the recipient of St. Daniel the Prophet s Christmas Giving Tree this year. Ozanam Manor is named after Blessed Frederic Ozanam, founder of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Ozanam Manor is a transitional, or bridge housing facility that is operated by the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Arizona. In many cases residents come to Ozanam Manor after literally living on the streets and alleys of the Phoenix area. The facility serves both men and women who are age 50 or older, or 18 and older with mental, or physical disabilities. Male and female residents live in separate quarters and are offered free emergency dorm style housing with a bed, bedside table and footlocker as well as the use of showers and rest rooms. Meals are offered free of charge in a safe, nurturing and supportive environment where the dignity of each individual is respected. Since the goal of facility is to transition residents into private permanent housing, Case Managers and Mentors assist them with job searches, counseling, resume writing and countless other services as they journey towards self-sufficiency and a life with dignity. The Giving Tree will be up the weekend of December 1st and 2nd. The tree will be decorated with hand written ornaments of the items that are wanted at Oaznam Manor. Please wrap your gifts but be sure to tape the ornament securely to the top of the gift. Wrap gifts separately if you are donating a combination of ornaments. We ask that you make every effort to turn in your gifts no later than noon on Thursday, December 20th. There will be no pick ups after that date. It is important that they make sure what is donated and that all their residents will have a gift or two. If you are unable to shop but would still like to donate to this agency, please write your checks to Ozanam Manor and turn your check into the parish office. Thank you for you generosity. Please join us as we celebrate the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe Join us for Mañanitas 5:00AM on Wednesday December 12th Mariachis singing traditional songs to Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass at 6:00AM Followed by Hot Chocolate and Sweet Bread in the Parish Hall.
