February Newsletter 2018 KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE COUNCIL 8306 PO Box 602, HELOTES, TX 78023 Council 8306 General Meetings are held the 1 st Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm in the Parish Hall GRAND KNIGHT: Reynaldo Maldonado (MaldonadoTexas@yahoo.com) District Deputy: William R. Torres (williamtorres72@yahoo.com) Deputy Grand Knight: Thad Taubert (THADTAUBERT@ATT.net) Financial Secretary: Hector Torres (kofc@olghelotes.org) Insurance Agent: Richard Barrera (Richard.barrera@kofc.org) Newsletter Editor: George Freund (gtfreund@outlook.com) Knights of Columbus, Council 8306: web address (www.kc-olg.org) Well there went January. Hope this new letter finds everyone in great health and spirits. Did you pray for me? I prayed for you! Prayer changes everything. I continue to pray for all my Brother Knights. We had a very successful January and we have a very busy February ahead of us. The ACTS Retreat has held this past January. We pushed for any Brother not having attended an ACTS Retreat to pray about attending and even offering a scholarship on our behalf to help pay for the retreat. We had no one come up to take us up on that offer. Our Council was represented very well. Our very own 40 Cans for Lent Chairman Dennis Chaput was the Director and our Blood-drive/Cemetery Clean Up/Horseshoe Pit Chairman Marcus Garcia was Co-Director and at least 4 or 5 Brother Knights were on the team, including me. The Knights of Columbus were spoken of very highly as always, but more so a push to our council was mentioned. We were able to have 6 Form 100 s filled out by eager Catholic Man. Most of these men have been interviewed by our Admissions Committee and are awaiting their Admissions Degree! How amazing is that?! Have we as Knights lost our passion for serving? Not in this Council! Every one of us holds that flame to serve and amongst our other Brothers is the logs that spread that fire. Be one another s log and spread this fire of Service. Who s heard of Roe v. Wade? Most of us know this has something to do with abortion. Did you know that Jane Roe did not have an abortion? Did you know she had the baby and the baby was placed for adoption? Did you know that Jane Roe is now PRO-LIFE?! Did I mention that PRAYER CHANGES EVERYTHING?! See you Wednesday! May God Bless You All. VIVAT JESUS! Reynaldo Maldonado, Jr. Grand Knight 1

The deadline to pay your Second Notice for your 2018 dues is FEBRUARY 14TH. Please do your best to pay your dues by this date to avoid suspension from our council. You can pay your dues in three different ways for your convenience. 1. Pay your Dues at the next membership meeting coming up on Wednesday, February 7th by Cash, Check, Money Order, or Card 2. Pay using our online payment website at https://squareup.com/store/knights8306 3. Please make sure your payment comes only directly to me and try to not give your payment to any other brothers including current officers as they will not be responsible if your payment is lost. Also, please do not drop in your payment at the Church Dropbox as that will result in a church donation to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Again, please let me know if you have any questions or financial troubles. All matters of financial issues will be handled privately. We say thank you in advance for taking care of your dues in a timely manner. Don't forget that if you attend a minimum of 5 qualifying council events, you are eligible to receive a free Knights T-shirt paid by the council. If you have already attended the five qualifying events, please send me an email with the events you attended. I will then research the events and order your free t- shirt. Qualifying event examples are Taco Sales, 40 cans events, Cornyval events, Cemetery landscaping, Riggs Road cleanup, etc. Please visit www.kc-olg.org and familiarize yourself with our website. PRO-LIFE NEWS: THANK YOU Brother Knights and families for attending this year s annual Pro-Life Rosary and Mass for Life sponsored by the Knights of Columbus! I greatly appreciated Knights arriving early and for you and your family s participation. It was indeed a standing room chapel full of prayer warriors. Immediately following the Pro-Life Rosary was the Mass for Life celebrated by Fr. Danny who provided a great homily. What a sight to have such a great showing from our brother Knights, families, our fellow parish members, and visitors. It is sad that it has been 45 years since the Supreme Court decision of Roe vs. Wade that resulted in the legal sanctioning of abortions. God willing soon - we as a nation will reverse this decision and protect all life from conception to natural death. Once Again - Thank You Very Much! YBIC, David Guerra Pro-Life Coordinator Knights of Columbus Council 8306 and Our Lady of Guadalupe Helotes We Have a Saint! Knights of Columbus - Texas State Council 01/31/2010 09:46 AM On January 25, 2018, hundreds gathered in St Patrick's Cafeteria in El Paso Texas for a special Mass with the Archbishop of Chihuahua Constancio Weckmann and the Bishop of El Paso Mark Seitz to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ordination of San Pedro de Jesus 9

Maldonando, a Martyr, and a Brother Knight. San Pedro is one of the six priests who were Knights among the 25 martyrs canonized by Pope John Paul Il in 2000. This Mass was made even more special as it was concelebrated by Rev. Fernando Zapata, great nephew of San Pedro and Rev. Fabian Marquez, one of the saint's most devoted promoters. Most importantly the Archbishop of Chihuahua and the family of San Pedro brought relics and personal possessions of the saint to be a part of the celebration. The relics of San Pedro are contained in a beautiful new reliquary handcrafted by a local Knight and permanently installed in the Cathedral. This new shrine in the USA to a saint and Knight should become a place of pilgrimage for members of our Order. And joyously, the next day, Rev. Fernando Zapata joined the Order in an emotional 1st Degree that I was honored to attend along with Father Marquez, Deacon Rosales, Diocesan Deputy Joe Grillo and DD 10 Oscar Villalva. We are grateful to all who made this celebration of San Pedro Maldonado so very memorable. Viva Cristo Rey!
