After the dissolution of the first group of female cosmonauts in 1969, she became a prominent member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, holding various political offices. Commemorative Stamp issued in honour of Swami Vivekananda by Sri Lanka Post - 7th June 2013 Department of Posts, Sri Lanka released a commemorative stamp to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. In appreciation of the contribution of the Hindu/Indian civilisation to the world, President Mahinda Rajapaksa released a postage stamp featuring Swami Vivekananda on 7th June 2013. Earlier in 1997 Sri Lanka had issued commemorative stamp on Swami Vivekananda. The first day cover has a sketch of the Vivekananda temple at Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu. Significantly, the stamp was released in the presence of a six-member delegation of BJP affiliates, led by Ravi Shankar Prasad, Deputy Leader of the Party in the Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of the Indian Parliament. President Mahinda Rajapaksa had other equally important reasons for releasing a stamp to honour the Hindu monk. Firstly, Vivekananda was the Indian counterpart of the Sinhalese-Buddhist revivalist, Anagarika Dharmapala. The two fiery campaigners knew each other well, having participated in the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893, sitting side by side on the dais. Both had given a religious dimension to the nationalist movements then emerging in their countries. Secondly, Vivekananda was no stranger to Sri Lanka. He had visited Sri Lanka in January 1897 at the invitation of Jaffna Tamils, who, already awakened to the glory of Hinduism by Arumuga Navalar, were in search of a spiritual leader after Navalar's death in 1879. Courtesy: Rainbow Stamp Club / Ceylon Today Commemorative Stamp in honour of Sri Satya Sai Baba to be released Union Minister Killi Kruprani has stated that a commemorative postage stamp will be released in honour of Puttaparthi Sri Satya Sai Baba on his birth anniversary this year. She stated Sri Satya Saibaba was an inspiration to people of all faiths. As a preacher of highest human values, Sri Satya Saibaba was an iconic figure for over five decades, who inspired millions to lead a moral and meaningful life even as they followed the religion of their choice. His teachings were rooted in the universal ideals of truth, right conduct, peace, love and non-violence and endeared himself to the people through various institutions, with headquarters at Prashanthi Nilayam that promoted moral values, education and public health. Because of him, Prashanthi Nilayam was put on the international tourist map as one of the important pilgrimage destinations of our country. Keeping in view his noble services to the humanity and particularly for the welfare of the people in Andhra Pradesh, the Union Minister directed the Department of Posts to release a commemorative postage stamp on him.
