THE INVOCATION We invoke ( call upon ) the name of our Triune God. Pastor: We begin our Savior s worship service today in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. ALL: Amen! Opening Hymn: 11(Red Hymnal) CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION OF SINS We come before God recognizing that we are sinful and daily need His forgiveness. P: We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve Him as His dear children. But we have disobeyed Him and deserve only His wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to Him and plead for His mercy. ALL: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from conception. In countless ways I have sinned against You and do not deserve to be called Your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to Your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt. P: God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, He has removed your guilt forever. You are His own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to His will! ALL: Amen! LORD, HAVE MERCY KYRIE 2 P a g e

GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST GLORIA IN EXCELSIS P: Let us pray through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: AMEN 1 ST LESSON ~ JOB 38:1-11 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said: 2 Who is this who darkens counsel By words without knowledge? 3 Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me. 4 Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. 5 Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? 6 To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, 7 When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy? 8 Or who shut in the sea 3 P a g e

with doors, When it burst forth and issued from the womb; 9 When I made the clouds its garment, And thick darkness its swaddling band; 10 When I fixed My limit for it, And set bars and doors; 11 When I said, This far you may come, but no farther, And here your proud waves must stop! 2 ND SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ 2 CORINTHIANS 5:14-21 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. 16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not [a]imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ s behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. P: Blessed are they who hear the Word of God and keep it! 4 P a g e

OUR CONFESSION OF FAITH ~ THE APOSTLES CREED I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. HYMN 327 [Red hymnal] SERMON MEDITATION read/watch sermons and services online at www.fdllutheran.org Jesus said, " Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!" ~Luke 11:28 Text: 1 Kings 19:1-9a And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, also how he had executed all the prophets with the sword. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time. 3 And when 5 P a g e

he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. 4 But he himself went a day s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers! 5 Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, Arise and eat. 6 Then he looked, and there by his head was a cake baked on coals, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank, and lay down again. 7 And the angel of the Lord came back the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you. 8 So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God. 9 And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place.
