Characteristics of a Christian Disciple Salvation/Regeneration Replication/Discipleship Local Church Member- Stewardship Prayer & Devotion Biblical Worldview Bible Study & Hiding the Word Salvation (John 3) In order for one to become a disciple of Christ she must first be born again; this would be evident by accepting the call of Christ as Lord and Savior and repenting of sin. Local Church Membership (1 Corinthians 12:11-27) Local church membership takes place after salvation whereby the saved individual begins to exercise her gift in the body (local church); this is seen through ministry involvement. Prayer and Devotion (Matthew 6:9-13) Prayer is essential in the life of a disciple as it is the means by which she communicates with the Father on a daily basis. Devotion is like prayer in that it establishes a genuine relationship with the Father through the reading of the word, prayer, supplication, psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, as well as meditation. Bible Study/Hiding the Word (2 Timothy 2:15; Psalm 119) These passages demonstrate the importance of the studying the word of God and hiding it in one s heart. A true disciple is commanded by scripture to study the word of God and hide it deep within. Biblical Worldview (1 Peter 3:15) Every believer is called to live according to the word of God and to give the reason for the hope found in Jesus Christ. A clear demonstration of this in the life of a disciple is their ability to articulate what it is that they believe about Christ and why. This also entails that one live based on what the scriptures says regardless of one s tradition, historical background, race, culture or ethnicity. Stewardship (Matthew 25) These parables are clear examples of the duty of the disciple in the proper management of the resources (body, time, talent and treasure) which the Lord has placed in her care. Replication (Matthew 10) A true disciple is one making disciples. This would be evident by the person having PTB (Paul, Timothy, Barnabas) relationships.
