News & Announcements UPCOMING EVENTS & MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES ANGEL TREE: The Angel Tree is back! Please take an angel from the tree and buy gifts accordingly. Wrapped gifts will need to be returned to Messiah by December 9th with your angel tag securely attached to the gift. If there are multiple gifts for the same child, please tie or bag them together. Gifts will delivered on Tuesday, December 11th between 4:00-5:00pm and we ll need volunteers to help us get the gifts from Messiah to the Aurora Technology Center. Please mark your CONNECT sheet if you can assist with this! Thank you for your generosity! PRESCHOOL Representatives from council met with the Fire Marshall this past week. The meeting was an informational meeting to gather information on requirements should we move forward with a pre-school. Basically there would be very minimal expenditure necessary as far as fire code requirements to open a pre-school. We will be posting a list of FAQ in the weeks ahead. Please continue praying for this outreach possibility and giving your feedback. At Messiah, we are powered by God s Grace! God s grace comes to us as we are. through grains of wheat that comprise the bread of Christ we share and that gathers us into the one Body of Christ. through grapes that are poured out together in the Blood of Christ, as we pour ourselves out into the world. through water that fills the baptismal font, washes us clean, and embraces us as Children of God..through the Holy Spirit that lives within us as the breath of life and that inspires us to live as grace-powered throughout the world. Order for Worship COMMUNION COMMUNION SONG ELW p. 146 ANNOUNCEMENTS GATHERING The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God. PROCESSIONAL HYMN Crown Him with Many Crowns ELW 855 *CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. 11/25/2018 4 DISTRIBUTION HYMNS Beautiful Savior ELW 838 Here Is Bread ELW 483 *PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION Jesus Christ, host of this meal, you have given us not only this bread and cup, but your very self, that we may feast on your great love. my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here. 37 Pilate asked him, So you are a king? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. SERMON HYMN OF THE DAY Lift High the Cross ELW 660 *CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. *PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION With the people of God gathered here and throughout the world, we offer our prayers for the church, the world, and all people in need... Each petition ends: Lord, in your mercy, The congregation responds: hear our prayer. Hear our prayers, spoken and silent, that we commend to you this day, trusting in 11/25/2018 10 *PRAYER OF THE DAY Let us pray, Almighty and ever-living God, you anointed your beloved Son to be priest and sovereign forever. Grant that all the people of the earth, now divided by the power of sin, may be united by the glorious and gentle rule of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. WORD God speaks to us in scripture reading, preaching, and song. FIRST READING Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14 Old Testament pg. 642 9 As I watched, thrones were set in place, and an Ancient One took his throne, his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels were burning fire. 10 A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him. The court sat in judgment, and the books were opened. 13 As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being 11/25/2018 7

coming with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the Ancient One and was presented before him. 14 To him was given dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed. Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. PSALM 93 Old Testament pg. 427 1 The Lord is king, robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength. The Lord has made the world so sure that it cannot be moved. 2 Ever since the world began, your throne has been established; you are from everlasting. 3 The waters have lifted up, O Lord, the waters have lifted up their voice; the waters have lifted up their pounding waves. 4 Mightier than the sound of many waters, mightier than the breaker of the sea, mightier is the Lord who dwells on high. 5 Your testimonies are very sure, and holiness befits your house, O Lord, forever and forevermore. and ever. 7 Look! He is coming with the clouds; every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail. So it is to be. 8 I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. CHILDREN'S MESSAGE This is the Day! *GOSPEL ACCLAMATION ELW p. 142 *GOSPEL John 18:33-37 New Testament pg. 86 SECOND READING Revelation 1:4b-8 New Testament pg. 193 The holy gospel according to John. Glory to you, O Lord. 4b Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and made us to be a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever 33 Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, Are you the King of the Jews? 34 Jesus answered, Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me? 35 Pilate replied, I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done? 36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not from this world.
