Thanksgiving is a legal holiday and not a Holy Day of Obligation. However, the very nature of the day, since its origin is to pause and thank God for blessings (originally a good harvest). Who of us does not have blessings for which to say thank you to God? We are blessed in so many wans. The word Eucharist means thanksgiving. So, it seems only natural to attend the Eucharist (Mass) on the day when the whole country is giving thanks.
