Series: Jesus 12/03/17 Title: Who Is He? INTRODUCTION WHO IS HE? -Today we begin our Jesus series. -Over the next three weeks, we will discuss the importance of a close relationship with Jesus, and an understanding of His place in our lives. -Open with me to the third chapter of John as we discuss today s message entitled, Who Is He?. John 3:16 (NKJV) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. -Many people know of Jesus at least they think they do. -It s one thing to know of someone it s another thing to know someone personally. -Today I want to talk about who Jesus is, and hopefully we can all leave here with a greater knowing of Him personally. -In March of this year, my wife and I celebrated 15 years of marriage. -Even though I have known her personally since I was 17 years old, I m still learning more about her each and every day we spend together. -It doesn t matter if you are hearing about Jesus for the first time today, or have known Him all of your life you can still learn more about who He is every day you spend with Him. -Jesus wants to know you personally, and wants you to know Him personally. 1
-He is someone you can count on, talk to, talk with and He desires to be a part of your everyday life. -So, who is He? -There are some 200 names and titles of Christ found in the Bible. -If you were to ask those around you who He is, you would get a different answer based on who He has been to them. -Not only do we not have enough time today to discuss all of who He is, we don t have enough words to do it either. -A few things we know for certain; He is Jesus Christ the King, the Messiah, the Lord. DO YOU KNOW HIM? -A famous sermon preached years ago by Pastor S.M. Lockridge, eloquently put into words a list of names of who Jesus is. -Without going into the other 200+ names found in scripture, I feel these names will help you understand a little bit more of who Jesus is. -Now, I m not going to preach his message, but I do want you to hear the description of the One you call Jesus the One you say you know personally. -The question is, Do you know Him this way? The Bible says my King is a seven-way king. He's the King of the Jews. He's the King of Israel. He's the King of Righteousness. He's the King of the Ages. He's the King of Heaven. He's the King of Glory. 2
He's the King of Kings, and He's the Lord of Lords. That's my King. Well. I wonder, do you know Him? David said, "The Heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows His handiwork. My King is a sovereign King. No means of measure can define His limitless love. No far-seeing telescope can bring into visibility the coastline of His shoreless supply. No barrier can hinder Him from pouring out His blessings. He's enduringly strong. He's entirely sincere. He's eternally steadfast. He's immortally graceful. He's imperially powerful. He's impartially merciful. Do you know Him? He's the greatest phenomenon that ever crossed the horizon of this world. He's God's Son. He's a sinner's Savior. He's the centerpiece of civilization. He stands in the solitude of Himself. He's awesome. He's unique. He's unparalleled. He's unprecedented. He's the loftiest idea in literature. He's the highest personality in philosophy. He's the supreme problem in higher criticism. He's the fundamental doctrine of true theology. 3
He's the cardinal necessity of spiritual religion. He's the miracle of the age. He's the superlative of everything good that you choose to call Him. He's the only one qualified to be an all sufficient Savior. I wonder if you know Him today? He supplies strength for the weak. He's available for the tempted and the tried. He sympathizes and He saves. He strengthens and sustains. He guards and He guides. He heals the sick. He cleanses lepers. He forgives sinners. He discharges debtors. He delivers captives. He defends the feeble. He blesses the young. He serves the unfortunate. He regards the aged. He rewards the diligent. And He beautifies the meek. I wonder if you know Him? Well, my King is THE King. He's the key to knowledge. He's the wellspring to wisdom. He's the doorway of deliverance. He's the pathway of peace. He's the roadway of righteousness. He's the highway of holiness. He's the gateway of glory. 4
Do you know Him? Well His office is manifold. His promise is sure. His light is matchless. His goodness is limitless. His mercy is everlasting. His love never changes. His Word is enough. His grace is sufficient. His reign is righteous. And His yoke is easy, and his burden is light. I wish I could describe Him to you, but: He's indescribable. He's incomprehensible. He's invincible. He's irresistible. Well, You can't get Him out of your mind. You can't get Him off of your hand. You can't out live Him, and you can't live without Him. The Pharisees couldn't stand Him, but they found out they couldn't stop Him. Pilate couldn't find any fault in Him. The witnesses couldn't get their testimonies to agree. Herod couldn't kill Him. Death couldn't handle Him, and the grave couldn't hold Him. -I think that s a good start to an unexhausted list of who Jesus is. 5
HE IS LOVE CONCLUSION -Church, John 3:16 tells us that Jesus is God s gift to humanity a reflection of His generosity. -The gift of Jesus came with much more than a manger scene. -Anything God gives is intended to improve your life. -Jesus should never be an option He was a solution to our spiritual condition that must be received in order to be in fellowship with the Father God. -While love is often felt, Jesus is God s love manifested. -He is God in the flesh, Emmanuel God with us. -1 John 4:8 says that God is love so Jesus is God s love in our lives. -To accept Jesus would be to accept God s love. -His love heals, protects, mends, restores, redeems, delivers, covers, and draws us closer to Himself. -Today, if you do not know Him, what are you waiting for? -Once you receive this gift come into a personal relationship with Jesus your life will never be the same again. -Jesus is your way out, and your way in. 6
