Miller once said, It is a great deal easier to do that which God gives us to do, no matter how hard it is, than to face the responsibilities of not doing it." Exodus 19:1-8 1. The Lord is ready to allow Israel to enter into a covenant relationship with Him. A. God is going to bind Himself to certain promises. B. Israel is going to bind themselves to certain obligations. 1) This is not an ordinary covenant. 2. The Lord reminds Israel of certain truths. A. Deliverance 1. Israel was delivered from Egyptian bondage (Jacob to the Exodus > 430 yrs). 2. We are delivered from spiritual bondage John 8:33-34 Romans 11:26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "THE DELIVERER WILL COME OUT OF ZION, AND HE WILL TURN AWAY UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB; Colossians 1:13-14 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. A. Redemption is a part of deliverance. 1) Redemption means deliverance from some evil by payment of a price. 1 Peter 1:18-19 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. a. Obedience 1. Israel had to obey God to be delivered and to remain free. 2. We must obey God to be delivered and to remain free. A. Salvation begins with obedience. Romans 6:17-18 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. B. Salvation continues with obedience (Philippians 2:12). Hebrews 5:8-9 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, Special Treasure 1. Israel became God's special treasure. Isaiah 43:1-4 2. Christians are God's special treasure. Titus 2:14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. 1 Peter 2:9-10 A. Christians are those who have been purchased. B. Christians are those who honor God. C. Christians are those who are zealous to work for God. All That the Lord has Spoken We Will Do 3
Kingdom of Priests 1. Israel was God's kingdom with priests. 2. Christians are God's kingdom with priests. A. Christians are the spiritual kingdom of Christ. Revelation 1:6 and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1) Christ is the King (Revelation 19:16). B. Christians are priests in Christ's kingdom. 1 Pet 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 1) Christ is the High Priest (Hebrews 7:26-27). Holy Nation 1. Israel was God's holy nation. Leviticus 19:2 Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them: 'You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy. 2. Christians are to be a holy nation. 1 Peter 1:15-16 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy." A. Everything about Christianity is HOLY. 1) We are holy (Ephesians 1:4). 2) Our calling is holy (2 Timothy 1:9). 3) We are a holy temple (Ephesians 2:21). 4) Our Worship is holy (1 Timothy 3:8). 5) We study the holy Scriptures (2 Timothy 3:15). 6) Our conduct is holy (2 Peter 3:11). 7) We are the holy church (Ephesians 5:27). 8) Our faith is holy (Jude 20). Mediator 1. Israel had a mediator - Moses. 2. Christians have a mediator - Jesus. 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, Hebrews 7:25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. A. Jesus completely understands God and man. Philippians 2:5-11 Sanctification 1. Israel was sanctified. SANCTIFIED: dedicated; set apart as holy; to make free from sin; purified. 2. Christians are sanctified. A. Jesus wants us to be sanctified. John 17:17-19 "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. "As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. "And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth. B. Jesus wants us to live sanctified lives (1 Corinthians 1:2). C. Awe and Respect 1. Israel stood in awe before the Lord at Mount Sinai. 2. We are to stand in awe before the Lord at Mount Zion. Hebrews 12:18-24, 28 Trumpet Sound 1. Israel heard the trumpet of the Lord. 2. We will hear the trumpet of the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 1 Corinthians 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. Conclusion 1. God has allowed us to enter into a covenant relationship with Him. A. So let us always say: All that the Lord Has Spoken We Will Do. 2. God will bless our lives as He has promised, if we will obey Him as we have promised. All That the Lord has Spoken We Will Do 7
