This will save the registrar a lot of frustration with receiving both candidates and team in at the same time.... Thank You. "Pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." Thessalonians 5:17-18 Sponsorship Sponsorship is the act of your revisiting The Walk to Emmaus experisnce with the person whom God has laid on your heart. It is one of the most improtant aspects of The Walk to Emmaus. It's responsibilities are not to be taken lightly or carried out casually or haphazardly. Sponsorship requires extensive prayer, diligent thought, and careful planning and follow-through. "The strength of any Emmaus community is a direct result of that community's recruiting practices" (Day Four (51)). We urge your to remember this focus as you consider sponsorship. Viewing The Walk to Emmaus as a hospital to cure all ills will weaken the community. Pray and work to strengthen and renew the church. As sponsors, we need to follow the scriptural principles of praying, being open to God, and then

calling people by name to attend The Walk to Emmaus. Remember that The Walk to Emmaus is not for everyone. Be certain that the individual you invite is right for Emmaus and that Emmaus is right for that individual. As stated in The Upper Room Handbook, the personal character of sponsorship underlines the personal care and commitment of God to each Pilgrim. The fact that the Emmaus experience is passed on from person to person reflects the relational nature of God and the manner in which God reaches out to people through people (20). Page 3 of 8 If God is calling you to sponsor someone, Please, Start lifting him or her up in prayer, NOW. This is very important. Prayer Praying is the first step in sponsorship. At this time we commit the process to God. We release to God our control, our desires, and our expectations. As Jesus exemplified while praying in the garden (Matt 26:41-42), we too must put ourselves in the position of allowing God to work through us. As we spend this time in prayer, we need to empty ourselves of self to be filled with God's instructions, God's timing, and God's person for us to sponsor. In summary, here are the imprtant points: Pray about whom to sponsor Wait for God's leading Be sure you are contacting Christians who belong to a church Use a personal setting ro speak with people (your home or their home) Affirm the person's walk with the Lord Be open in your discussions Testify to the changes in your life followiing your Walk experience Use simple terms and avoid Emmaus jargon Share that Emmaus is not a secret society Candidate/Sponsors registration Forms Candidate/Sponsor and Team registration forms are available on the website at : http://www.superiorlandemmaus.org/ AGAPE Walks #57 and #58 are upon us!
