Suddenly it was discovered that Thomas had that very blood type. So the doctor came in and had a talk with him. Son, said the doctor, would you give your blood so that your sister can live? Thomas looked shocked. But after thinking this over for a little while, he told the doctor he would do it. They took the blood, and a little later, the doctor came in to ask how he was feeling. Fine, Thomas said. And then he asked quietly, But, Doctor, when do I die? Only then did it dawn on the doctor that Thomas had misunderstood. He thought he was giving all his blood to save his sister. The entire meaning of the Passion of Jesus Christ rests on this same kind of single-minded sacrifice the willingness of an innocent man to give up everything, to give all his blood, if that is what it takes to save the lives and the souls of the world. Do any of us understand why Jesus had to die? No, no more than we understand why we and all creatures suffer in the terrible ways that we do. But we are not expected to understand, because only God is God. Remember that even Jesus does not take up his cross lightly; he prays three times that God might change the future. But what shines brightly through the pain is that the Suffering Jesus gave his whole heart into the hands of God. Then Jesus had only to keep walking. Gathered and united in Jesus' love, we continue our Lenten journey to Calvary. May we press on with faith and hope and love ready to rejoice at the empty tomb with the risen Christ. The events of Holy Week remind us that the victory of Jesus can be ours if our lives find their model in Him. We need to be reminded of the power we share through His Eucharistic presence, His death, His resurrection. Our Holy Week and Easter Schedule has been inserted in this week s bulletin. Please keep it handy. Let it be an invitation and reminder for you and your family to participate in the liturgies of this holiest week of the year. We are blessed when you are present. Please plan on joining us in our celebrations and bring someone you love with you. We will be decorating our church for Easter on Holy Saturday, April 19 th at 10am. Parishioners are welcome to come and lend a hand. We also need to be reminded of the warm love and concern we share through our stewardship of time, talent, and treasure. We have included an Easter Offering envelope in your Easter mailing. Please keep in mind the tough winter season we have all endured (with much larger snow removal bills) and remember the many ministries our parish supports. Remember, too, that we rely heavily upon your donation at Easter to support these ministries and programs. Please, be as generous as your means allow. We so appreciate your efforts. Know that I pray for you every day. Please pray for me, too. God Love You! 1
