CALENDAR -/- potlight on some of the agencies and programs supported by The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore FIND U ONLINE AT: associated.org /..

/ In Jewish Baltimore, we are blessed to have a strong system of support and cooperation in place. Through The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore and our agencies and programs, we address the needs and aspirations for the breadth of our community. Whether we are serving a family with young children who is establishing a Jewish home or caring for an older adult in the later years, The Associated is present and available throughout each stage of life. Our core Jewish values are apparent every day throughout our community and extend beyond our borders to those in need in Israel or worldwide communities where Jews are persecuted for their religious beliefs. The range of The Associated s reach is hard to grasp if your involvement is concentrated in just one area of the myriad addressed each day. That is why we are telling The Associated story in the best way we know how: through the compelling words of the many people uplifted and inspired by one of our agencies or programs. Whether it is the college student who attends a Hillel event, the woman who escapes an abusive marriage thanks to CHANA, the child with a disability who finds success in school because of HEMEH or the older couple living productive and happy lives at one of CHAI s Weinberg enior Living facilities, we are touching people, each and every day. The start of the Jewish New Year is a wonderful time to celebrate the men, women and children whose stories exemplify the values of The Associated in action all year long. It is the people helped and those who are helping who truly make our community inspiring. Thank you, Mark D. Neumann Chair of the Board Marc B. Terrill President THE AOCIATED JEWIH COMMUNITY FEDERATION OF BALTIMORE Through the Annual Campaign, The Associated provides aid for the impoverished, education and enrichment for Jewish youth, care for isolated seniors and financial assistance to those who have suffered. From advancing care for the vulnerable to building a Jewish future and developing a global peoplehood, your contributions ensure that our community thrives. MIION The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore strengthens and nurtures Jewish life by engaging and supporting community partners in Greater Baltimore, Israel and around the world. VIION The Associated will secure the resources necessary to address the evolving landscape of Jewish life, ensuring a vibrant community for future generations.

Meet Erin ullivan University of Maryland, College Park tudent, Maryland Hillel Fellow College Park student Erin ullivan understands how important Jewish involvement is to a successful, and social, college life. That s why this vivacious young woman became involved with Maryland Hillel. Whether it s attending habbat dinner, or a bagel brunch, riding a camel at Israel Fest or becoming a Hillel Fellow where she planned activities for North Campus freshman Erin has found a place to socialize with students across the Jewish spectrum. And, on a college campus like the University of Maryland, where you can go from point A to B without seeing anyone you know, Hillel is a tight-knit environment where you can hang out with old friends, or meet new ones. You may become close with someone who went to camp with a friend of yours or spent a gap year with your cousin, she says. Read Erin s story at associated.org/ourstories. For example, did you know Barbara and Howard were the number one names in Jewish Baltimore from? I m learning about the Jewish community as I go through the papers. I see bar mitzvahs and wedding announcements of my friends; ads for stores I remember, even the original Facebook. What was that? The society column. Meet Atara Reich HEMEH Recipient, tudent with Executive Functioning Disorder There was a time when Bais Yaakov eighth grader, Atara Reich, a bright student with executive functioning disorder, needed three lockers to store all the trash she accumulated at school. One locker was for my art projects, one was for paper and the other was for my school books. I couldn t find anything! Atara had trouble concentrating, organizing herself, completing assignments and managing anxiety. Parents, Estie and Reuven Reich, feared she wouldn t succeed in school. Fortunately, with two years of weekly coaching in organization, prioritization, time and anxiety management from HEMEH s arah Ottensoser, Atara overcame many of her challenges. Nowadays, Atara s binder is organized and most work turned in on time. I was drowning in paper and Mrs. Ottensoser threw me a life raft, says Atara. Read Atara s story at associated.org/ourstories. Meet Marisa Barnett Milldale Camp Counselor, Jewish Camp Fan When she was years old, pint-sized, first-time camper Marisa Barnett told the director of Camp Nah-Jee-Wah that she would someday take her job. Barnett knew then that she never wanted to miss a season of Jewish summer camp. Barnett began that first summer a frightened, young girl who didn t fit in, and emerged from camp, a happier, more confident young woman. Growing up with all my problems was tough, but I knew I had to keep pushing ahead, because once I got through the [school] year, I had camp, she recalls. Now and a senior at Towson University, Barnett s summers haven t changed much. Meet Craig Cohen JCC Maccabi Baseball Player, Team Captain Watching his older brother play baseball for JCC Maccabi, Craig Cohen knew he wanted the same experience. What could be more exciting than traveling to another city with a bunch of teens while playing the sport he loved? But Craig never anticipated that a Maccabi experience would be so much more than a series of competitions. In fact, it became, in his own words, something that changed his life. For the four years he competed on Baltimore s Maccabi baseball team, Craig gained confidence, became more outgoing and made friends who, he knew, always had my back. I met friends from different schools, from different Jewish backgrounds. ome were Orthodox, and others came from interfaith families. But what was amazing was that we were bound together by this common experience. We were part of something bigger within the Jewish community. Read Craig s story at associated.org/ourstories.
