The Prayers of the People and Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. *The Hymn #529 Lord of the Living (Presby Hymnal) (Verses 1 3) The Offertory Invitation God gives us gifts so that we can give to others. God calls us to share what we have and who we are in service to Christ. Let us bring before the Lord our gifts and offerings. As the offering plates are being passed, please sign and pass the Friendship Registers located at the end of your pews. Thank you! The Offertory Organ Offertory Chuck Davey *The Congregation Sings in Response #6 Praise God, Praise God, from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him, all creatures here below. Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise Him above, ye heav nly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! *The Prayer of Dedication (In Unison) Loving God, you remind us that we are part of the body of Christ. Together, we form one community, united by your Spirit, joined by bonds of love. May these offerings and our witness help bring good news to the poor, liberation to the oppressed and healing to all who hurt. May our gifts be used to proclaim your gifts of abundant grace, compassion, and love. Amen. Leader: The Lord of Hosts is with us; People: The God of Jacob is our refuge. (Portions of Psalm 46) The Opening Prayer (In Unison) Eternal God, you lead your people like a loving shepherd, guiding us through the different seasons of life. Sometimes, our paths lead to pastures of abundant growth and joy. Sometimes, we travel through valleys made desolate by sorrow and loss. But wherever we travel, you are with us comforting us, leading us, loving us. Speak to us in this time of worship, Lord. Help us to sense your caring presence. Help us to trust in your boundless grace and steadfast love. Amen. *The Opening Hymn #376 Love Divine, All Loves Excelling (Presby Hymnal) (Ushers will collect prayer requests. The Prayer of Confession (In Unison) Holy and merciful God, we confess we are not the disciples you call us to be. We are your people but we do not seek you. We are your children but we barely resemble you. You call us to care for the poor but we are blind to the needs around us. You call us to comfort the grieving but we are hesitant to speak. Forgive us, Lord. Open our eyes to the many opportunities to serve you. Empower us to be instruments of your blessing, love and peace. Amen. A Time of Silent Confession The Assurance of Pardon The Congregation Sings in Response Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. People: Thanks be to God The Anthem You are Mine Chancel Choir The Congregation Sings in Response Breathe on Me, Breath of God Breathe on me, Breath of God, Fill me with life anew That I may love what Thou dost love, And do what Thou wouldst do. Breathe on me, Breath of God, Until my heart is pure, Until with Thee I will one will, To do and to endure. The Sermon Rev. Merry Meloy The Church Responds *The Affirmation of Faith - Apostles' Creed (In Unison) I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Recognition of Those Who Have Died The Litany of Christian Hope: Leader: Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye. People: For this perishable body must put on imperishability, And this mortal body must put on immortality. Leader: Then the saying that is written will be fulfilled: Death has been swallowed up in victory. People: Where, O Death, is your victory? Where, O Death, is your sting? Leader: The sting of death is sin, And the power of sin is the law. People: But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Leader: Jesus says: People: Do not let your hearts be troubled, And do not let them be afraid. Leader: For I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, People: And everyone who lives and believes in me Will never die. (Portions of 1 Corinthians 15, John 14, & 11) The Hymn #275 God of Our Life (Presby Hymnal)

January 1 st Sunday Mission Offering Saint Andrews First Sunday Mission Offering in January goes to the McKee Memorial Fund to help support the work of Jim and Jodi McGill. After serving in Malawi for more than twenty years, the McGills recently moved to Niger where they will continue their work in water/sanitation and health. A geological engineer, Jim is working with the Evangelical Church in the Republic of Niger (EERN) and the Presbyterian Church of South Sudan to provide clean water and sanitation to communities in rural Niger and South Sudan. Jim s wife Jodi is a nurse and public health educator. She is helping the EERN develop church-run health clinics and train students in its new nursing school. Located south of Libya and west of Chad, Niger is one of the poorest countries in Africa. Fewer than 50% of its children are enrolled in school and its annual per capita GDP is around $800. Farming is limited by frequent draughts and the country s vast desert regions are growing due to lack of rain, excessive cultivation, overgrazing and deforestation. While most Nigerians are Muslim, the government is secular and there is an openness to the gospel. The circumstances in South Sudan are even more challenging. Though the region has abundant natural resources, decades of civil war have left the country s infrastructure in ruins and its people traumatized. In 2015, a fragile peace was established. A year later, new waves of violence erupted. The conflict has caused widespread famine and displaced more than 3 million people. The Presbyterian Church (USA) has been involved in Sudan for more than 100 years and has longstanding relationships with several partner churches there. To help support the McGill s work, simply use the envelope marked McKee Missions Offering in the January section of the Saint Andrews giving envelope booklet, use a First Sunday Mission Offering envelope from the pew racks, or write McKee Missions Offering on the memo line of your check. Mid-Week Youth Program Wednesdays 5:15 pm 7:15 pm Join us for an evening of fun, fellowship, music and Bible Study. After a holiday break, our Mid-Week Youth Program has resumed. Our usual schedule is: 5:15 5:45 Instrumental Music 5:45 6:45 Dinner and Bible Study/Discussion 6:45 7:15 Bells Bring a friend and come! A Request from Our Youth As many of you know, during the school year, we meet on Wednesday evenings here at the church. After a long day of school, some of us have only a few minutes to stop at home before we head back out the door. Some of us don t have time to go home at all. So we love being able to have dinner together in the Memorial Room. Sharing a meal and fellowship is one of our favorite parts of the evening and that s why we need your help. Could you feed us one Wednesday evening during the school year? We aren t hard to please... chicken nuggets, hot dogs, corn dogs, and mac and cheese are always a hit. We LOVE breakfast for dinner. Pizza (frozen or delivery) works too. Throw in a beverage (and sometimes even a treat) and dinner is served. We re not picky. But we re growing fast so we are hungry!! A sign-up sheet is available in the Narthex. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Stephanie Slezak or talk to any of our moms. On a typical Wednesday evening, there are 10-12 youth. Dinner is served at 5:45 pm. Thanks so much for your love, support, and most of all your prayers for us as we grow as Christians. We feel blessed to call you all our church family!
