MISSIONS COMMISSION STATEMENT OF PURPOSE The Missions Commission of FUMC - YC is committed to the ministry of: Educating our congregation about global missions and the opportunities it offers to fulfill the Great Commission Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20 Building personal relationships with missionaries to discover what God is doing around the world. Encouraging, counseling, and supporting those in our congregation who are led to commit to missions. Encouraging our congregation in Faith Promise giving, prayer support, and special offerings for our missionaries and their ministries. WHAT IS MISSIONS ASSISTANCE? Missions Assistance, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization established in 1985 by persons in the Yuba City First United Methodist Church. The organization's sole purpose is to receive and distribute mission giving by members of the Yuba City First UMC. It allows 100% of your missionary giving to go to the mission field. All planning and other matters regarding the missions program is done by the church's Mission Commission. Our church is a part of the BIG picture! We're helping to reach more than 1.2 billion people, who have NOT heard the message of JESUS CHRIST. WHY GLOBAL OUTREACH? The First United Methodist Church of Yuba City should be in the business of GLOBAL OUTREACH because: Jesus said in Matthew 28:19-20, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Paul said in Acts 10:42, He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that He is the one whom God appointed as the judge of the living and the dead. In Mark 13:10 we read, "And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. Again in Mark 16:15 it says, "He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. We ourselves cannot all go, BUT we can be involved in "second mile" giving through our financial support of Missions, covering missionaries in prayer, corresponding with them, participating in events that expose you to those in the mission field, and assisting this Commission in facilitating events that encourage our congregation to be involved in global outreach. This makes it possible for others to spread the Word as Christ's ambassadors and ours. DR. HORMOZ SHARIAT SERVING CHRIST in IRAN Iran Alive Ministries Iran Alive Ministries, a satellite TV ministry broadcasting 24/7 to the Muslim world in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and tens of thousands of Iranians living in the Middle East, Northern Africa and Europe. After founding a Christian church for Iranians living in the San Jose area, (that today numbers over 600 believers) God tugged on his heart to reach out to the 150 million Iranian Muslims worldwide, and IAM was founded in 2000. Soon after the 9/11 terrorist attack IAM began a satellite TV ministry, broadcasting uncensored teachings of Christ into the closed country of Iran. The result of this ministry is that today the underground church is exploding. Christianity is growing faster there than in any other nation on earth. Dr. Shariat has been described as the Billy Graham of Iran. Come hear him speak of the thousands of marvelous Iranian conversions as these people are rejecting Islam and turning to Christ as their only source of hope and peace.
PETER and ESTHER PEREIRA SERVING CHRIST in INDIA Hope For Today Ministries Peter and Esther Pereira s ministry encompasses Church Planting, Leadership Development and Compassion Ministries. Peter is the Founder/ Director of Hope for Today Ministries, a Christian Organization working along with the churches in India to reach the unreached areas with the Gospel. Compassion is a big part of this ministry, and Esther is instrumental along with capably supporting Peter in the rest of their mission. Currently there are projects with Orphans and At Risk children called the Alpha Homes and Alpha Schools, Soya Milk distribution to slum children, Sewing Centers to teach widows, Vacation Bible School for 10,000 unreached children each year, and blankets given with the story of Christ s birth to the elderly and young, and more. Another important aspect of their ministry is conducting seminars and conferences training and equipping Pastors and church leaders. TRAVIS AND STEPHANIE CARR SERVING CHRIST in ISRAEL Reign Ministries In 2006, Travis was given the opportunity to see what God can do with young people when taken out of their comfort zones, exposed to a world of need, and empowered to make a difference. Shortly after returning from that summer, Travis and Stephanie joined full time staff as team leaders and fully sold out to the vision of creating summers of service to equip students with a lifetime of ministry. They have been deeply impacted by the unique vision of Royal Servants and their emphasis of discipleship and evangelism. Beyond that, they have been so blessed to witness how much God is on the move right now all over the globe. This has transformed their life, and God has given them a heart that is outwardly focused on the work God is doing all over world. They feel so blessed that God has allowed them to be a part of Royal Servants, and cannot wait to see how God transforms young people to be more like HIM especially this summer as they transition into leading a ministry to team to Israel, and help those youth increase their leadership skills.

WHAT IS A A FAITH PROMISE IS a commitment to missions for the coming year of a specific amount you believe God will supply through you, not necessarily dependent upon known or anticipated resources. (But it could come from known resources.) FAITH PROMISE GIVING, for both individuals and churches, spiritualizes missionary giving by basing it not on what the Christian can give of his own ability, but on what he trusts God to give through him. IT IS BIBLICAL. In II Corinthians 8 and 9, Paul described the mission giving of the early church as, "To the limit of their resources and even beyond that limit they begged to share." II Corinthians 8:3-4 IT IS CONTEMPORARY. A.B. Simpson introduced it and missionary statesman Oswald J. Smith spread it. Many churches and denominations have adopted it. IT IS NOT OUR TITHE. The tithe already belongs to God. The Bible designates the tithe for the "storehouse" or church. IT IS NOT AN OFFERING. Offerings are made from time to time from known resources. FAITH PROMISE IT IS NOT A PLEDGE. A pledge is horizontal, promised by the donor for a worthy cause. A Faith Promise is vertical, made between the believer and God. FAITH PROMISE MISSION GIVING comes out of God's pocket, not our own. FAITH PROMISES ARE PAID monthly, weekly or in total at any time that God provides. Please make checks payable to MISSIONS ASSISTANCE and clearly designate for specific project or missionary, if that is the donor's intent. THREE RESULTS OF FAITH PROMISE GIVING PROVIDENTIAL SUPPLY, God s abundant resources are released in unexpected ways through those who are otherwise unable to give. CONTAGIOUS GIVING, by sharing in the faith promise ingathering, uninvolved members catch the contagion of missions giving. GOD'S ABUNDANT BLESSING, fulfilling our primary assignment of reaching the unreached brings God's abundant blessing in many ways.
