By the time you receive this newsletter, the season of Lent will be about half over. Perhaps you have already dealt with the question, What are you giving up for Lent? Sometimes that is where our reflections on Lent begin and end - giving up something, a way of showing God how strong we are. We are giving up chocolate or beer or sweets or TV or movies or snacks for 40 days, 40 days to prove to ourselves and to God that we can do it. And at the end of Lent we return to whatever we gave up. And it ends up being more about me than about God. In the time that remains in Lent, perhaps we need to think through again the real meaning of Lent, that this is a season of reflection, repentance, and prayer as we prepare our hearts for Easter. God wants to help us transform our lives and make us truly free and that can only happen to the extent that we realize the amazing, awesome love that God has shown to us through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. What challenges do you encounter day to day? Is there a pattern of behavior in your life that needs changing? What do I need more of in my life? More patience, unselfishness, more loving behavior toward my family maybe? Perhaps some time spent reflecting on Jesus and the Word, daily? Or someone I need to spend some time with, a relationship where healing is needed perhaps, or some time spent with the people of God? Each of us has something that we are being called to perfect in our lives. Perhaps in the remaining time of Lent we can begin or continue to focus on that, and take another step toward becoming that special person He is calling us to be in and through Him! As we prepare for the Spring walks, please keep the Lay Directors, the teams and the pilgrims in your prayers, that each participant will sense the Presence of the Lord in a mighty way throughout the preparation and on the weekend, and be forever changed in some way. Join me in continuing to focus on Jesus during the remaining journey to Easter, Senie Burns, Community Lay Director Other items We still need people to help with the meals during the walks in April. Please check your schedules and call Mary Paul Harmon at 757-787-3571 if you have some time when you can participate in this ministry. ---------------------------------------- Please sign up to pray for 30 minutes at a set time during the Walks in April. We have many slots to fill and would appreciate your prayers during that time. The prayer is done in your home, day and night, so there is no need to go out to participate. Please help to make someone else s Walk as effective as yours was. Call Pat Krukowski at 757-894-1108 or write her at patski@dmv.com to reserve a slot or two on the prayer vigil. God will honor our prayers with an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the weekend. We simply need to be praying. ---------------------------------------- As you prepare for the March 9 th gathering at Craddockville UMC, invite someone to join you a friend, someone that you haven t seen at a gathering in awhile, someone that you sponsored at some point, someone you walked or teamed with, a person who has not seen this newsletter, or someone whose spirits would be lifted with a good time of fellowship, music, and worship. We d love to have them join us!

Page 2 The Walk Way A Word from our Spiritual Director "And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst." During an Emmaus weekend there is never a shortage of bread (or buns, or bacon, or...). The fellowship that is had around those tables during meals are some of the most treasured moments of the weekend. It is a time when many learn of the different walks of life that are represented and where each of the individual pilgrims are in their spiritual journey. Food, as many would attest too, plays an important role on an Emmaus Walk. It is at this point, attention is given to the above Scripture verse. Jesus states emphatically that He is the, "Bread of life." If a person comes to Jesus in faith and is saved, that person will never have to worry of going spiritually hungry again. On an Emmaus weekend, the least of a pilgrim's worries (or a team member for that matter) is that they will go hungry. They are constantly being fed by Ms. Emily and the kitchen staff. Christ, in like manner, as we look to Him for spiritual sustenance, will constantly feed us as well. We will never have to look any further than Christ to give us our daily bread. As God took care of feeding the Israelites every day in the wilderness journey, we can be assured that, as we seek Christ, there will always be fresh bread every day to be found. With Grace, Your CSD, Steve Willing Fly with Christ! I can definitely see that God has plans for 2013 and Chrysalis. He allowed us to send two girls on the flight in Tidewater. The girls are very excited and they have started talking to other girls about Chrysalis. They are anxiously waiting to attend a Next Steps and then to team in the fall. That is right; I said the fall. The Board has decided to set the weekend of Nov. 22-24 for our next Girl s Flight. Please start looking and talking to the girls in your church who you feel would enjoy a weekend bathed in God s Love. We need to show all our youth how much God loves them. In order to have this flight, we need to have at least 12 caterpillars. I am asking for this community to pray and support our board as we begin to make preparations for this weekend. We will be selecting the lay director soon and we will let you know as soon as we do. We are also planning a RUSH in the middle of May or first of June. Great things happen when God mixes with us. Things are happening and by God s Grace there will be more to come. Your Brother in Christ, Gordon Ward Jr.

Volume 21, Number 2 Page 3 Outreach Greetings brothers and sisters, When we pray for the walks that are taking place all over the world, do you ever stop to think about all the other Emmaus Communities worldwide, that are praying for these exact same walks? These walks are being bathed in prayer, and we are unified with other believers all over the world. How wonderful that prayer unites us in heart, soul and mind and makes us all, One with the Father.
