JBQ Lesson 15 Quizzer Name: Escape From Judgment
God Establishes His Covenant Topic: Abraham & His Family 19 15 Lesson Lesson Bible Fact-Pak Questions 41, 45, 48 477 576 ESCAPE FROM JUDGMENT Scripture references: Genesis 12:4,5; 13:10,13; 19:24,26; Proverbs 6:16 19; Luke 17:26 30; 2 Peter 3:10 14 Abraham had a nephew named Lot. When Lot s father died, Abraham took care of Lot. When God called Abraham to leave his home, Abraham took Lot with him. He also took his wife, all the people who worked for him, and everything he owned. BFP: 41 1. A Bad Choice After several years of traveling, Abraham finally arrived in Canaan. By this time, Abraham owned many, many animals, and so did Lot. There was not enough food in one place to feed all of Abraham s animals and all of Lot s animals, so they decided to live in different places. Abraham was unselfish, so he allowed Lot to pick the land he wanted. Lot was selfish, so he picked the land that looked the richest. This land included the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah may have been a rich land, but they were not good places to live. The people there were very wicked. But to Lot, it was more important to be rich than to be godly. His choice led him into trouble. God told Abraham He was going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because of the wickedness of the people there. Abraham asked God to spare Lot, and God did. BFP: 45, 48 2. Judgment, Then and Now Jesus told His disciples that the time of His return will be like the days of Noah and Lot (Luke 17:26 28). People will be going about their business with no idea of what is about to happen. In the days of Noah, the Flood came suddenly and destroyed all the wicked. In Lot s day, fire rained down from heaven and destroyed the wicked people and the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. When Jesus returns, the wicked will again be destroyed. The Bible says the heavens and the earth will be destroyed by fire (2 Peter 3:10). Just as in Noah s day and in Lot s day, unbelievers will not be expecting it. But those who believe will be ready. BFP: 477 3. How to Escape Judgment The Bible says we should live holy and godly lives so we can escape the judgment by fire (2 Peter 3:11,12). How can we know if our life is pleasing to God? Proverbs 6:16 19 gives a list of things that God hates. These are things that wicked people do, like lying, murder, mischief, and causing trouble. If you have asked Jesus to be your Savior, the Holy Spirit lives in you and helps you to do the right things. If you don t have the Holy Spirit, all you have to do is ask Jesus to forgive your sins and be your Savior. Then the Holy Spirit will be with you to help you live a godly life. BFP: 576
