St. Ignatius of Antioch Church 999 Reading Avenue Yardley, PA 19067 August 14, 2016 Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time THE COSTS OF DISCIPLESHIP Today's responsorial psalm, Psalm 40, is more familiar to us with the refrain "Here am I, Lord." This "Here am I" is Jeremiah's great prophetic response to God's call. But today's story of Jeremiah and the refrain "Lord, come to my aid!" remind us that there are always two sides to following the call of God. The author of the Letter to the Hebrews knew this, too. He reminded his readers that even weighted down with burdens and sins, we can still persevere by keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, who himself knew the shame and pain of the cross, but saw beyond it to the joy of sitting at the right of the throne of God. Jesus himself gave the disciples a "sneak preview" of a baptism that would not be as wondrous as the one in the Jordan that inaugurated his ministry, but would be one of fire and anguish. Today's words from scripture may not be terribly soothing, but in their honesty and strength we can acknowledge the difficulties of daily discipleship, and take comfort in the assurance of our own salvation in Christ. In Discovering our Dignity, we learn that women of the Old and New Testament were sometimes as flawed and broken as we can be. Yet, the power of God worked in their lives. Through their stories recorded in Scripture, they reach out to touch our present in a tender, honest and loving way woman to woman. To register on line go to www.stignatius.church. ADULT FAITH FORMATION In our attempt to fulfill the perceived needs of our parishioners, our Adult Faith Formation committee is planning a one- day retreat on October 1, 2016. Matt.9:13- But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners. What Jesus was saying was if the Pharisees knew God and understood what really mattered to Him, they would not put such overemphasis on rules about such things as ritual cleanliness and restrictive Sabbath observance. Finally understood, God wants us to love Him sincerely not bribe Him with our gifts and sacrifice. Jesus sacrifice on the Cross was mercy and forgiveness personified. Come hear more at our retreat on Mercy, Oct 1, 2016 starting 8 AM Mass followed by a continental breakfast and box lunch and will be over by 3 PM. Register at lruppersberger@gmail.com for food count. Thanks. St Thomas Aquinas, pray for us. Intercessory Prayer That during this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we will turn our hearts anew to the Lord and accept God s mercy and forgiveness, we pray to the Lord. SAVE THE DATE FOR ST. IGNATIUS PARISH PICNIC SEPTEMBER 18th 2PM 5PM ROSE OF LIFE INTENTION For all who work in crisis pregnancy centers Lots of fun, good food, music and games! **Volunteers are needed to help at the picnic. Check future bulletins for details. CATHOLIC WOMEN S CONFERENCE You re invited to step away from everyday life for a day of inspiration and renewal at the Catholic Women s Conference Mother of Mercy, Make Our Hearts Like Yours! on Saturday, October, 29, 2016, 8:30am to 4:00pm, at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, PA. Nine dynamic speakers address all facets of the feminine genius and its influence on the total woman mind, body, and spirit in creating a heart of mercy. This special day includes something for every woman, married, single, and consecrated, featuring a Spanish track, youth track for teen girls and an American Sign Language track. PLEASE REMEMBER The first day each week for Catholic Education in School and PREP begins on Saturday/Sunday with attendance at Mass. The Respect Life committee is proud to announce a babies shower ; yes, that is correct a plural babies shower for the entire month of October. The gifts will be awarded to the women and babies of the crisis pregnancy centers supported by the Legacy of Life Foundation. A crib will be place in the main entrance to the Church and gift suggestions will be available for individuals/family/friends to either purchase solo or in groups and then return unwrapped the following weekend to be placed in or next to the crib. The Committee will collect the gifts weekly; these gifts will benefit these mothers and their children as they embark on their newly saved and graced lives. We have all purchased gifts for those we know; in this year of Mercy, let us all do a corporal work of mercy and gift these new families. If you cannot afford a gift at this time, please consider a spiritual work of mercy and pray for them and those who work at the Centers. Thank you. The Church always advances between the Cross and the Resurrection, between persecutions and the consolations of the Lord. This is the path: those who take the path do not go wrong. Crisis pregnancy centers try to help moms with unexpected pregnancies to try to choose the path of life, as advanced by the Resurrection. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us. Intercessory Prayer: For all those who are persecuted for their respect for human life: May the Lord strengthen their faith and assure them of His closeness; we pray to the Lord BIKE RIDE FOR AUTISM Bike Ride For Autism!! Learn the answers to these questions and honor Mary this month as we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption by watching this engaging episode. Jesus said "could you not spend one hour with me?". Won't you consider spending an hour a week at our Adoration Chapel? It's a quiet place where you can pray or just be still and enjoy the presence of the Lord. The Chapel is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and you can visit anytime your schedule allows. Presently, we have some open hours and need your help: Monday 1pm, Tuesday 11am, 3am, Wednesday 2am, Thursday 2pm, Friday 9am and 6pm, Saturday 1am, 11am, and 1pm. Even if you can only commit for a short time, it would be appreciated. For more information call Marianne Kloc at 267-346-0152. God Bless you!
